I sold my modded Z06 at a collector car auction over the weekend, and just couldn't keep my bid card in my pocket like a reasonable person.

Q: What does a guy buy when he gets bored of a 512rwhp Z06?

A: Baja!

It's a little too teal for my taste, but that's why paint was invented.

Baja got back!

Gotta lose the jacked up Toyota seats and clean up the interior a bit. In InRich terms, this thing is fully loaded! 5 switches on the dash! High AND low beam headlights, wiper, washer, and a mystery switch! Fuel reserve tap under the dash as a beast this savage can't be weighed down with frivolous junk like a fuel gauge. No heater, seatbelts or sunvisors, as those creature comforts are for pussies.

It's probably the slowest car I've ever owned, but I can't wait to start driving it. I don't think a single other car I've purchased has put this big of a grin on my face.

Apparently it has a 1776cc engine, and a new full disc brake setup. I have no idea about any of the other parts as I don't know jack about VWs yet. It puked a main seal a few feet before the auction block (didn't help his selling price) and the seller is a big VW guy so offered to drop a seal in for the winning bidder. I can't wait to get the car home and start sorting it out and making it mine. With the flip hood and open engine bay, it looks to be so easy to work on, especially compared to the way everything was crammed in to the C5 vette. I'm actually excited to start turning wrenches on this thing, and being a VW, it will probably give me ample opportunity.

Looks like a fun project.

The purple-ish tint (at least how it looks in the pic) has to go :)

Yep, taking a razor blade to that and the decal on the front window will happen within minutes of it landing in my garage. Then I'll address the seats, as my 6ft fiancee can only sit in the thing with the sunroof open.

Awesome!! I actually really like the colour but yeah that purple tint has to go. Reminds me of the 90's when high school kids would buy cheap tint that would discolour haha

I said the exact same thing when I got mine...
Congrats. Welcome to the club.

They are super easy to work on. A few pics of mine in this thread HERE (http://forums.beyond.ca/st/399364/gary-moe-volkswagen-summer-contest-does-your-vw-have-character/)

Yes and yes to Jwslam and Dznutz.

How much did the Z06 go for at auction? My father and I went, we were a bit underwhelmed with the cars on offer, I guess a lot of people did not show due to the poor weather.

Congrats on the purchase! I don't think I could possibly go from a Z06 to a Baja bug, but hey, whatever works :)

Nice baja! And thanks, I've got it in my Amazon cart right now!

Are those 3rd gen Supra seats?

Beats me. The PO just said 'Toyota'. And they're on weird tall brackets that are no bueno when marrying a 6ft tall girl who already isn't on 'Team Baja'. I'm thinking of going back to stock, or hitting the junkyard for a little narrower seat that I can sit a little deeper between the sills.

$25k. I would have liked closer to 30 but the economy isn't great and the car market is weird right now. Upside is the auction waived their fees as I said I needed 25 cash in my pocket or GTFO. Solid guy, way better operator than the other auctions IMO.

The Z06 was fun, but without a track, doing anything that put a smile on my face put me straight in to 'go directly to jail' if not 'wind up in the newspaper' territory. The baja is just keeping me busy until I find a real replacement, likely either a '49-54, or 55/57 chev to swap a mild stock LS in, vintage air, and just have as a cruiser to enjoy.

who runs that auction? I've been going to alot of the collector auctions(not this one) and I'm starting to really see the shady side of the auction business.

sounds like a good deal to waive the fees for you, you don't hear that often. on a post related note, I love the color. I've always liked these cars but I could never own one lol

I love the Baja's and hope to one day buy one when I have the garage space. There was a garage in Rosetown SK that had a yellow one for sale in a little rough shape but they wanted wayyy to much for it. I regret not dickering with the guy.

I look forward to seeing this one around town.

Does yours have seatbelts? lol. Mine has one lap belt on the drivers side. - in the process of upgrading, I like my face the way it is.

Jonathan Mackee. Used to work for Electric Garage, but we all know that auction is a bit of a dog and pony show. Lots of invisible bidders, a ton of 'unreserved' cars that sell to the same 3 guys and mysteriously show up again at the next sale. They pull the same shit with their 'unreserved' eBay auctions.

I suppose he'd rather make the buyers premium and add one more to the 'sold' pile than have both buyer and seller go home without him making a cut. Makes sense from both a business and customer service perspective.

Nope, no seatbelts. I'm thinking they're probably universal enough I can just go to the junkyard and grab any black or grey seatbelts and bolt them in, and not spend a few hundred on a 'kit' designed for the car. The originality is shot, so looks and function are all I care about. Part of me wants to bomb around with no seatbelts and a 'FTP' attitude (there were no seatbelts from the factory in a '66 beetle, so the police can technically KMA as far as I can tell), but I'd feel like shit if a passenger got hurt because I couldn't be bothered to throw belts in the thing.

I might have a line on a full Baja donor car. Pretty sure it is rolling but not running. Kind of a half started project that has been stored for years. No idea what he would want for it but PM me if you are interested and i will try to connect you. Assume its it decent shape.

Mine has just the drivers lap belt. I bought the front shoulder belt kit from Julianos, but have yet to install it. Mine is a '60. Also sourced a new rear bench seat and plan to put belts back there for the few times my kids are in the car.
