Canadian National Rally Championship: Round 2
Presented By MAKITA

The Rocky Mountain Rally will be run this year on May 28-29, 2004.
This the only local Alberta rally on the National series and it will be a vrey fun event with a special spectator stage at Blackfoot Motorcycle Park on the Friday (May 28).

The Rocky attracts talent from all across the country and from the US as well. It has also attracted new corperate interest for this year, with more than 3 new sponsors, the 2004 race promises to be one of the best ever.

A great way to see the event up close is to volunteer. There are many positions available.

Check out the site for more information.

I would like to direct your attention to this thread --->http://www.specialstage.com/forum/c...ewmode=threaded

Its a discussion between the drivers on wiether or not there should be a Reconissance run (Recce) to survey the road and make changes to the pace notes to include sugnificant details.. making the drivers feel more confident, more familiar with the stages, and better rally action this year.

They seem to be in a deadlock though... the drivers are commenting that recce helps a ton, but the rally organizers are commenting that it is just not feasible timewise/ resourcewise, etc to do it. The main concern is that the workers/volunteers MIGHT have to work longer on the Porcupine Hills stages, maybe possibly two days instead of just one, and thats IF the recce required volunteers to manage the roads.

I am personally in complete favour of a recce, even if it requires the volunteers to work longer (I'll probably be volunteering this year). Anyone else volunteering? (please say yes.. the amount of volunteers is quite thin from what I have been told), and what is your opinion on the recce?

I personally can't wait for the rally this year :) Last year was great, but this year will be even better (more evo's!!! w00t!!) Anyone know if Pat Richard and Tom McGeer will be driving Private entries this year or factory-sponsored WRX STi's like last year?

Ive got video clips from the spectator area last year if anyone wants them >.>

Me too. For all the folks who think rally is neato and spiffy and whatnot, this is the perfect opportunity to take in a real pro rally in your own city.

The spectator stage at the Motorcycle speed park near the blackfoot inn is always good. I've been there the past 3 yrs. But this I'm going to miss it. Gonna be out of town :( And Tom McGreer Is going to have a new WRX at this event. ARGH :banghead:

ok folks, not this weekend, but next! at very least make it down to the Blackfoot spectator stage. Its a great little stage with an exciting jump at the beginning. The cost is $5, which I feel i nothing to see the caliber of cars and drivers that will be there. Friday starts at 6:00 and ends approx. at 9:00

Im definitely into rally, but how much of a spectator sport is this? I have this idea of sitting on lawn chairs off a particular part of the course, the car comes and goes within a matter of seconds, then you dont see it again. Is it better than it sounds?
hjr
head out to the spectator stage at blackfoot, then decide from there if you want to make the long trek south for the sat. stages. the blackfoot stages are more fun to watch i think.

Actually, this year's Rocky will be a good spectator year.
There are basically two main spectator areas in the porcupine hills, and they are about 500m apart.
With 50 cars this year, we will have the first cars going through the second spectator area before the last car has come through the main spectator area.
There will be down times, but this rally will be good for cars arriving regularly.
Of course the cars are 1 at a time and about a minute apart ... and it will get boring fast if there is a problem on the route ... but that's all a part of rallying.

It would be worth it, even for just the Blackfoot stages, to pick-up a rally pack from Mac's convenience stores. For $10 you get two $5 tickets to the spectator stage in town, a 16 page spectator guide, a Rocky Mountain Rally poster, and a few other goodies. (the bonus is that all of the money comes back to the Rally ... and we need it!)

If you want to come out to the forest stages, be prepared to leave early ... we have to close the roads by about 9:45 for the first set of stages ... they re-open about 11:45 for about 45 minutes ... remember that short of a medical emergency, once the roads are closed, you're in there ...

Also Keep in mind that the time schedule is subject to change, and that if you do come down, you need to be prepared for what ever mother nature brings us ... snow, rain, and so on.

There will be a concession at the spectator area. but you may still want to bring some of your own goodies.

If it is worth anything - I still remember the giddy feeling I had watching my first 'live' rally - Rocky 1999. This year we have Richard, McGeer, Sprobgle, Comrie-Picard, the always great battle ion Gr.2 between Jon Nichols and Gord Olson in Golfs, and a total of 22 Alberta cars in the 50 car field !!! (we only started 21 cars in total last year)

in short - yes it can be spectating fun ...(if you start paying attention to when the cars get to you you can get an idea how fast they are or at least who's quicker) but it IS a long day and can take some getting used to - the Blackfoot is much more of a 'show'

Hope to see a bunch of you out there!

(Adam - your sig pic is great ... looks familiar somehow ...:D )

So, we are not confused: THIS FRIDAY

How long of a drive is it from the Calgary city limits to the site location? I need to judge what time to leave so that I'm not late! :)

Thanks!!

it is about 170Km - count on 2 hours with trying to find the stages and so on. The Skyline road access to the spectator stage will be closed down at about 9:45 in order to get the second stage of day 2 ready ... the cars will pass the spectator area for the first time at about 10:10AM ...

Swing by a Mac's store and grab a "Rally Pack" - the spectator guide has a lot of the information you need, nad has tickets to the Blackfoot stage as well!

Should be a good show ... 46 cars registered to start now (we lost a few) Still double what we had last year!!!!!!!
Shaolin
I'll be there this year to check it out! first rally ever.. should be fun... I think me and my buddies are gonna be there early.. i was told to be there at around 9am.. :dunno:

So I just bought a 'rally pack' from mac's, and my tickets are nowhere to be found in it. Figures. :(

At least I have a map I guess.

Will there be signs showing where to go? The map does not show where we need to go to park.

hjr
if you go to blackfoot motorcycle park, you wont miss the line of cars.
benyl
How much is the spectating on Friday at the park?

Chris,
I just PM's you - but contact me at keith @ morison.ca and we'll get that straightened out.
The packs wre 'manually' assembled by a few dedicated and finger weary rally types - sorry about that but we'll deal with it.

All - entry to the Blackfoot Motorcycle park on Friday night is $5 per person, and the Rally Pack - which DOES normally have 2 tickets in it, is $10 ...

GT-FOUR
Keith is kindly taking care of the ticket issue for me. :)

hjr: I was referring to the event on saturday, and where to park? I've been to the friday event twice now. Lots of fun. ;)
tulit
Does anyone know how to get the blackfoot motorcycle park? Ive never been there, and the map on the RMR webpage doesnt work.

Thanks.
QuasarCav
