not the best thing to win, but i guess to each his own.
~$eanith~
I think it would be sweet. Xzibit is so hilarious on that show. I think some of the stuff they do looks ghey, it would be sweet to hang out with them and see the work first hand.
civicrider
agreed the cars always look gay on that show, its still fun to watch, the only things i like are the tv's ans shit they put into them, like that couch in the back of the pickup that was cool. i bet so many of those cars get jacked or smashed up, almost everyone on that show loves in the ghetto, one night parked on the curb it'll be on blocks in the moring
~$eanith~
yeah totally, they put their "giovanna" wheels on yet i don't see wheel locks. Ever. Some of these people are straight outta compton.. And they rarely put in alarm systems either.
Stratus_Power
yeh i think that show is pretty gay. it seems cool for the 30 min but Im sure in the long run its pretty useless and stupid.. like having an espresso machine in the arm rest?? a camera/printer in the vanity mirror, a ping pong table... etc
finboy
HACK JOB, ever see the "body work" they do to cars like the civic? bondo everywhere, and even though the car's run like pos', do you ever see them fix the mechanical issues?
civicrider
well sometimes they rebuild engines and stuff, they probably do a hack job because its being rushed and why bother doing a good job the cars will be trashed in a week.

I don't think they actually install a new exhaust. They probably just weld on a new chrome tip to complete the "bling". Cause you know with them, it ain't a good looking car unless it's "bling", and got stupid ass flames or racing stripes on the car. The worst bodywork guy by far is that stupid idiot looking guy with the frizzy hair who looks like he crawled out of his cardboard box. Almost every car he's painted has flames or something retarded.
cman
true true, i meant to say exhaust tip. i have to admit, some of the electronics they do are fucking nice. props to that guy.
saiyajin
ya they rarely do engine work...rides and overhaulin are the good shows but on overhaulin i havnt seen one where they do an import its usually a hotrod or some SUV or truck...it would be so sweet to see what they could do with an import

West Coast Choppers does do performance mods, havent any of you guys seen the Cribs special on them? They just dont bother unless its a peice that wont run anyway
statick
we're talking bout pimp my ride, they do their sht at west coast customs.
7thgenvic
wouldn't they have to do some engine work, some of those ol civics and trucks have their engines pretty much falling out the bottom of the car! and they hardly run, i guess they just do enough work to get the thing running, the paint jobs are nice colors but rushed again, i remember the one truck that they repainted orange was a hack job around the wheel wells where you could still see the original paint, around the bottom of the fender! one thing is right, the electronics on those things are PIMP
SpeedyZ
hahaha man I said West Coast Choppers but I meant West Coast Customs :banghead:
hyperwhite
hahaha i fuckin hate "rice my shitbox"! i would never take a car to that shop, they have no taste at all. tuner transformation is way better
saiyajin
^ ummm no...they have to work around a budget it was cool that they made that Paseo into a rearwheel drive car but did you see the paint scheme on that piece?? ya i dont want a frikin giant "tuner transformation" on my hood and i think it was on the side too? not sure:thumbsdow
statick
^i think tuner transofrmaiton is still better than pimp my ride , in many ways.

isnt if fckin hilarious when they say "well we put 20K into a 20 dollar car, we have officially pimped his ride!!!", yet most the ppl they pimp live in the ghetto, i wouldnt be suprised if they got jacked str8 up the next day!!! lol

I saw the CRX one last night... they looked at the engine, and said, "OK, we're going to have to rebuild it, it's leaking oil!" I thought, "Wow! They're actually going to fix the POS engine!" Then you see them put the engine back in... and it looks quite a bit the same. But I thought, hey, maybe they replaced the internals or something. So the guy says "Well, we've rebuilt his motor! It should run like a brand new car, and be really fast!" What exactly did they do to the engine? "Well, we replaced the clutch, changed the oil, changed the spark plug wires, and replaced the air filter. ...And painted the intake and stuff." Yes, of course! I must've have been mistaken when I thought a rebuild actually involved tearing down the engine!! Man, I bet that CRX runs like a mad monkey with those shiny, new aftermarket spark plug wires!! :thumbsdow :thumbsdow :thumbsdow :thumbsdow :thumbsdow :thumbsdow :thumbsdow :thumbsdow :thumbsdow "Rice my Shitbox", indeed!!
Sean@WCC
Hello, I actually work at West Coast Customs. I'm the guy that did the M3 stuff on the Escort. The main thing you guys need to understand is that MTV picks the cars and also tells us what they want to see us do to the cars. Some times they have a hard time understanding that if the cars look like shit on the outside, they most likley are shit under the hood. We do NOT do any engine rebuilding or tune up stuff at our shop. If we touch the motor on the PMR cars we are then responsible for how well the cars run, and we are not in the buisness of making piece of shit cars run better. After we are done with the PMR cars alot of the owners think we need to be responsible for evey thing on the car, even the stuff we didn't touch with that in mind, we try to stay away from do engine work. We did actually have a motor put in the red Escort after it blew a head gasket while the MTV guys were driving it. Even in that case we sent it to another shop to get the motor put in. The motor blowing up had nothing to do with us but we still paid to have the work done. There is alot of things that happen to these cars that never makes it to air on the show. You will see over the next few months afew high-profile cars that will get alot of press. Check out the 300 C Convertible we built for SEMA. We will make it very clear what our shop is capible of building. Check out our web site, we are adding new pics eveyday, and you can see whay kind of cars we are building for customers. Sean Mahaney
Seanith
How come the episode (that i just saw tonight heh) with Brian's CRX, the engine is so bad that you guys said "we need to rebuild the engine". All the rebuild consisted of was cleaning the block of all the gunk, replacing the air filter, new spark plug wires, and painting the carberator red? Serious question..
shakalaka
Hey Sean, welcome to beyond. Well I agree with you on most instances. Like that show made you guys famous, but at the same time they kinda gave you a reputation of "rice". Cauz its really upto MTV, what they want, how much they want to spend and everything. I agree with you there. I am sure you guys can do a way better job than on the show. Its because of "pimp my ride", everyone thinks that you do rice stuff, which is pretty much MTV is paying you guys for i guess.
Sean@WCC
Well I didn't work there when that was shot, but I think they put a used Japan motor in it. Alot of the time the MTV staff will make us say stuff that doesn't make much sense. I don't think they made it very clear what exactly Alex did to the motor. You also have to under stand that we have roughly 14 days to do eveything to the car, and in those 14 days we are actually working on 2 or moe for the PMR cars at the same time. It may have been easier to pull the motor and do the minor work to it while the car was being prep'ed for paint. Some times its easier to pull the motor than to have to deal with 4 guys sanding a car down while you try to fix oil leaks and stuff. Sean
Seanith
yeah understood.. i guess with what you said about saying stuff that doesn't make sense, does mtv make you guys say "dumb stuff" just so its a little more understandable to the general public? I love the show though :D

what did the guy with the ranger do? he had a job delivering parts in his truck, you guys put an impressive audio/video set up in the bed, but did he complain that he couldn't use the bed anymore to move parts? not trying to be a dick, just wondering what he said :dunno:
Sean@WCC
I don't know much about that truck. That one makes as much sense as putting Lambo doors on the civic that drives grandma to the doctor. There will be even more stuff this season like that. Its very true that most of the people can't drive the cars around and park them on the street. The DJ guy had all of the DJ equipment stolen from the car. I know there are more stories like that. Do you find that Pimp my ride has worsened or improved the reputation of WCC. My gf watched PMR for the first time and she was under the impression that WCC was some hole in the wall garage that did up beater cars, when in fact WCC is one of the best custom shops in NA.
Sean@WCC
I feel that the show helped get our name out to the public which will help sell clothes, toys, etc, but it has not really helped get us new customers. Most people that really know about cars can tell that what is done on the show is not always quality work or even in good taste. If any thing it has driven away customers. We are doing a few projects for NON-car people that know the show don't understand the difference between the show stuff and quality work. They see we're on TV and thats good enough for them. The show has opened alot of doors for us, now we just need to show everone what type of stuff we really do. Don't take me wrong, even our customers ask for weird stuff. I'm putting a fish tank in the floor of one of Baby's (from Cash Money) trucks, and doing a 30 inch flip down in the roof. Sean

If you guys want to appreciate West Coast Custom's work, instead of watching Pimp my Ride, check out Rides on TLC. There's 2 episodes that feature their work on real cars, episode "Westside" which shows them working on an Enzo, and the Hot Wheels Escalade in episode "Big Minatures".
xrayvsn
All I can say about the show is that my wife will actually watch it with me, and she knows the name WCC. You have to understand that she is not in the least a car person, and getting her to even watch a 30sec car commercial with me is an accomplishment. She actually admits to liking the show, just because it is so outrageous what they do to these beat down POS's. Sean, now I can finally give my wife a good explanantion as to why you guys never repair the major components. That was something both of us wondered about, especially since you are putting so much money into the rest of the car (whether some of it is in good taste, or not is another topic). I suppose those people have more incentive to maybe keep the maintenance up on those cars. The show is a huge advertisement for the shop. Even non-auto enthusiasts know WCC. Pretty much the same as what Monster Garage, and Orange County Choppers did for their respective shops in terms of advertising.

That would suck to have that stuff stolen. Theres probably no way he can afford to replace it.But its your choice if your gonna park it on the street or not, cause if over say 50,000 (no idea how many watch it) people in L.A saw my car get pimped out i would park it in a garage for a few weeks at least. I have a question for you Sean, a friend of mine was wondering if you have to live in Cali to be selected for PMR?
Sean@WCC
Yes you have to be in the LA or OC area of Cali. the MTV people are lazy:rolleyes: . They only select people that can be driven to from our area. Sean

too bad, or i would have entered my jetta, it would have gotten on for SURE

found this post by chance. i know sean's work personally. he lifted my brothers oldsmobile back in about 96'. way back in his days working in Santa Ana. Also bagged my Brown Dually, after someone did a hack job on it. The show is geared towards those who are "gear head" challenged. I can tell you this much, if sean is working on your ride, you wont have any problems with it in the long run. i wouldnt base the work the shop does with what is seen on MTV. guess as a buisness owner have to take the good and the bad. would enjoy seeing what the guys could do on a more serious show and channel, such as Cut, Chop, Build on Speed. cause i seen what another shop on Speed is doing, and wow, im appauled at the lack of quality in some things they do.
Sean@WCC
I'm starting to feel old. next thing I know I'll hear from people from the Trendsetter days, 1988 So far the cars that we have done this season have been turning out pretty good. The first 3 cars you see will be cars we did at the end of last season that didn't air. We filmed 11 and they showed 8. By this wensday we will have finished 3 new cars with my current crew. Sean
orangecounty58
haha, we all get older, i feel real old coming off shoulder surgery. most of us gear heads love our cars, so people, shop names tend to bring out memories. things only get better in age, namely our minds and how we build things (hopefully)

The pool table's a cool idea, but how would it keep level? I missed the ep, so I didn't see if it had some funky auto-leveling system for when the truck wasn't exactly level. (Which would be 90% of the time, anyway)

Sorry I'm getting this old thread back :P In Europe, Pimp My Ride also gets very popular! But my question is: how does MTV pays all those cars? The things WCC does must be extremely expensive?

Sean@WCC
They pay use to do each car. Its the same amount no matter what we do to the car. Yes some of the parts are sponsored, but if you pay attention to the show you will see that there is not that many banners up and there is almost no mention of company names. You also don't see stickers all over the cars. MTV wouldn't let us do much about getting sponsors, they liked seeing us spend all the money they gave us on part rather than paying the bills for shop and the employees pay checks:banghead: sean
mr.loco
Hey Sean, do me a big favor. Send a shout-out to Alex, A.J. and Ryan. Tell those vatos locos to do a '64 Impala with hydraulics and shit. I loved you guys work before the show came out. Keep up the good hard work!

I think it'd be funny to give a shout out to Beyond. That would just be entertaining.

Wow I would have almost called BS on you Sean if you didn't mention trendsetter. I remember Mini truckin' tech articles from way back in 95' that you did with them, and It's cool to see you working with Ryan. I allways was amazed with your fabrication skills, like the rear clip on mike selfs truck and your ability to think outside the box when everyone else was just doing the same thing over and over. Whatever happen to your yota with the rambler roof?

the two tone volkswagen euro bus they did was actually very clean...very creative stuff too

Propz, I'll have to be honest after watching the mt-v stuff at my relatives in San Fransisco I was skeptical. After looking at your website I have to applaud your work. The 300C is looking really nice. Do you know why the cop pulled you over tho? :burnout:

that cavalier convertable was sure interesting the way it turned out...and rember even xzibit said there pretty quick hmmm....maybe a indorsment is in action lol:rofl:

I'm probably the only one here close to WCC lol. I felt bad for Viet, the guy with the Nissan 240sx. I actually met him in person because he was trying to buy my sparco seat. He was banned from everyone 240sx forum in cali, shunned from car meets in the local area. Man that car is seriously out of hand when I saw it in person, but regardless it was a very nice job of imitation the game model. WCC should roll down to a Los Angeles meet we have in City of Industry 626 area and show everyone your real work. Meet is so big that we had Carboy Magazine (Huge Japanese Tuning Magazine, similar to Option) do a photoshoot, a few formula D drifters come, and a few dvd coverages so far. TAB tuesdays, it's getting popular in the area now.

I had my car Pimped by WCC and I am very happy with it. I don't intend to sell it, and MTV did a good job making sure it had the appropriate security devices on it. I added more, sure, but hey, what's a little healthy paranoia? For the guy who said he would bring a 'list', it's not done like that. They surprise you with a customization matched to your personality. In my case, Big Bertha is a perfect fit! Don't knock the show unless you really know what goes on. It was really awesome to get my car Pimped, and she is still a daily driver.
