Lexus a shitty American brand??

I don't believe you can even compare V8 Lexus' to 2JZ-GTE powered Toyota's- after all Lexus is a pure luxury branch of Toyota (ie. Eunos/Mazda, Infinity/Nissan) .

The 1UZ engine in the LS400 was purely designed for a smooth and quiet ride, not to pull a fast 0-60. In fact the 4.0 litre V8 was so well-engineered it's actually nearly impossible to tell if the car is running while idling. Lexus' 1UZ is defiantly one of the most underrated V8's in the world.

V8's are lame, inline engines are a Japanese tradition. You don't have to buy 2 of everything when you want to upgrade and you can actually fit your hands between the engine and the strut towers. Not to mention the UZ engines always come mated to an automatic transmission.

Lexus is shitty, it's not a luxury brand, it's just americanised Toyota cars. They even watered down the names: Aristo, Celsior, Windom, Altezza, Soarer, these are names. GS, LS, ES, IS, SC....come on....no comparison. If you think you're special because you own a Lexus/Infiniti/Acura, your car is just a watered down version of a normal car in Japan.

Keep it straight....inline turbo forever!

I have to agree with mx73someday. North american versions of Japanese cars have been ruined. Look at the 240sx, they came with a truck engine thats still an inline 4 banger but they just have an up'd displacement. Personally and v6 isn't high on my lists because until you have driven a car with a decent turbo well its hard to describe its just the feeling of the turbo kicking in at 3000ish rpm.

I would love to see car's here come with forced induction more often. And in a reliable way.

Toyota and Lexus are one family, though with different missions. The LS400 was designed to compete with cars such as the BMW 7-series and MB S-series, therefore it HAD to be fitted with a big eight cylinder to even compare to the V8's and V12's found in German counterparts.

In addition, except for the IS220, there are no lower classes of the Lexus brand sold anywhere in the world, unlike Toyota.

You’re wasting your time if want to continue arguing that Lexus is NOT the Luxury arm of Toyota. Because it clearly is.

I agree that *most* USDM cars are absolutly brutal compared to their JDM equivalents, especially Nissans. However, I don't agree in the case of the Lexus.

Poor camber......very......It seems camre correction isn't very high any any JDM or asian manufactured cars....that being said, it was not a stab at "ricers" but most of them really have bad camber problems, and they wonder why their wheels cup so bad.......

why would they need to make a v8 to compete with the 7 series and other MB's when they have engines likes the 1jz and 2 jz that even still produce more power then the 1uz..in my opinion they had to dumb these cars up for the american public because v8 engines are the best and over the last 50 years the lack of turbo cars in north america nobody know the joy of turbo...lexus is garbage you look at toyota aristo and you can get more luxury that whats available in a gs430..engines like the 1uz arn't put in the top of the line models because those kind of cars wouldn't sell..they love inline 6 turbo. i wish north american auto manufacturers would get out of the mindset that to make more power you need a bigger engine..true sports cars are 100hp per litre..the viper is 8.5 litres and only makes 500 hp with an 8.2 compression ratio...how pathetic is that..90% of the performance imports make over 100hp/litre...closemindedness sucks

Redlyne_mr2
03-19-2005, 11:52 PM
Hehe I remember seeing a top gear episode mocking the Viper. Jeremy stated that if they were to give the vipers 8.3 litres to European engineers they would have doubled the horsepower.

There is no way a 1JZ or 2JZ powered luxury sedan would ever last in the same market as MB's or Bimmers. Turbocharged engines are ususally associated with sports or touring cars, not luxury cars. I've had the pleasure to drive a turbocharged inline-6 car this past summer, and the sudden surge of horsepower @ 3000rpm isnt what I would ever want to experience driving a luxury car. I would rather the smooth power of a torquey 4.0 DOHC 32 valve V8.

And you say engines like the 1UZ were not put in top of the line models because they would not sell??? The 1UZ was put into quite a few high end Toyota cars, such as the Celisor, Soarer, and Crown- and a few others I can't think of.

I know inline 6's are very popular in Japan, but you seem to be implying that Lexus' V8 is a downgrade from a Toyota turbo 6. I'm simply saying that large displacement engines have their place in luxury cars, while turbo 6's do not.

i find these two posts completely retarded

anyone can take an engine and mod it, that is how we get more horsepower, like all the 400+ four bangers out there now. these cars didnt come with that number stock. im sure if dodge wanted to, they could make a viper with whatever horsepower number they wanted to. what im gettin at is, they probably dulled down the engine for the general public. (apparently american consumers arent that bright:dunno: ) 8.2 compression? its not exactly runnin at its full potential....

lets take another example,
the new 7 litre z06 makes about 500 horse, the thing here is that it is reliable horsepower, this engine will last for a very long time, most 500 hp engines wont. im sure chevy could bump the power up to whatever, but they wont

TurboMedic
03-20-2005, 11:24 AM
/\/\ No, you're missing the point....Look at the following examples of 100hp/litre stock cars:
VW GTI 1.8l turbo, 180hp/184tq stock
Toyota Celica GT-S 180hp 1.8l
Acura RSX-S 200hp 2.0l..

Now, after modding these we often see 200+hp/litre, and yes anyone can mod it and make it faster......The point of the post was that Europeans and Japanese have a tendancy to make more power out of small displacements, through advanced fuel and timing management, forced induction, etc, as thats what the market there demands, whereas in the good ole USA the mindset still remains "there's no replacement for displacement".....

lotsa turbo cars make trq too?

a 16 year old VG30DETT makes 283 ft/lbs off a eensy 3.0L, and can make tonnes more very easily, 2jzs stock make almost 100 ft/lbs / litre, 2nd gen 3000Gts seem to make decent trq for its motor size too as a stocker...let alone modded...

Im sorry, but it is simple engineering to know that 500 horse coming from a 4 cylinder is probably way less reliable than a 6 8 or 10 cylinder motor... simply on the premise that it takes less energy to produce it as in the violence going on in the 4 cylinder is 4 times more violent than an 8 cylinder.

this Lexus is tastefully done and aestaethically pleasing
unlike most modded japanese, where in-your-face awkward body kits and elements of design come together in a crammed package creating a spectacular kitschy design
