The NHL playoffs start next month, so we're starting a NHL playoff pool contest. We will be using the Sportingnews hockey pool so if you haven't signed up there yet, you'll want to register and get your team setup asap. The NHL playoffs start on April 11, 2007 so your team must be finalized before then.

The draft will be quite simple, you have $30M which you will use to buy players for your team. You will buy a total of 7 players; 1 Goalie, 2 Defensemen, 2 Wingers, 1 Center, and 1 Extra Attacker. The lineup you have on April 11th will be used to determine your final rankings amongst the beyond.ca league.

In order to keep this hockey pool as simple as possible for casual hockey fans, there will be no trades allowed. The interface will provide an option to make trades, as well as purchasing additional trades but anyone that trades players will be disqualified from the contest.

Also, to help build a community and help contribute to the active discussion of the playoff pool while it is running, your team name must be your beyond.ca user name.

I have not finalized the prize yet for this contest, but our prize budget is somewhere around $750 - $1000 and it will be dependent on participation level. Tell your friends about this contest, post about it on other forums or blogs to get more people to enter. New members that sign-up just for this contest are eligible to win!

Yes, you can build you team now and change it all you want until April 11th at which time your roster will be open for everyone else in the league to see. This roster will be your final roster which you will not be allowed to change in order to remain in the contest.

it's been a tough season for hockey pools for me... no luck... but hopefully my team can come through in the clutch!

Hey Kenny, you might want to specific a tiebreaker cause chances are 2 people (atleast) will have the same team.... i can only imagine how many all Flames teams there will be haha.

Does it really matter..... they are going to go out first round...
