Once again, the nanny-state to the rescue.
What the government should be doing is eliminating mandatory closing times if they want to reduce bar violence.
So often, bar patrons all leave the bar at the same time after last call, and, especially in the summer, that's when the bad behavior starts. This huge crush of people are mostly drunk, all kicked into the street at the same time, and can't easily get home, because all the cabs are suddenly swamped. So it's actually the government regulation that causes the problem. If they eliminated closing times, bars would all pick their own time, and these staggered last calls would solve a significant number of problems.
But eliminating minimum drink prices? Isn't that just a guarantee that anybody who can't afford the new prices just buys a mickey? I don't think people will actually drink less, and when the violence doesn't decrease, count on Red Stelmach to come up with some new BS regulations for us.
