    Default Beyond identity crisis?

I've been on the forum for some time and also on some others. If you ask some people on this board what beyond is about you'll get the "automotive enthusiast" ramble. But the hidden message is it is a Calgary based forum, which is not written anywhere. To quote a response to a fellow beyonder from Cali:

The beyond forum is one of the highest hit boards on the internet. There is great potential for beyond to spark even more interest in the car enthusiast domain everywhere, but its seems that the strong sense of locality is really anchoring it down.

That's the way it should be about if you ask me. The more the site grows, the more douchbags will join, and the stupider the posts and threads will get, until it hits a point where everyone is just so pissed off at everyone else that the forum ultimately fails. Just look at HT.

I think it's good for the forum to grow. I would like to think that although with the addition of the douche members, we'll get a couple that are actually going to contribute something to the forum. I've told sooooo many people in Cali about beyond... every S2KI.com meet I went to I mentioned it. It helps that beyond has world wide fame too... which peaks the interest of car enthusiasts.

I think you'll hardly notice a difference when it grows as long as the amount of moderators grows too.

It will stay calgary based (probably); uless Rage is planning a hostile takeover of the douchebags on 780tuners... and I don't like foreigners.

We already run 780tuners. They sit on my servers.

We started out as Calgary based, and it takes time for the forum to evolve into a national forum. We've already got lots of non Calgarians on the forums, once those members grow, the Calgarians will feel left out and we'll have to have a Calgary regional section .

And you guys are right, nowhere do we mention we're based out of Calgary, so if you see members say it's Calgary based, please correct them. We can't read all the threads ourselves.

I sense a replacement for the derogatory term "Fucking 08s":

    "Fucking NCs" (Non Calgarians) Hahaha

perhaps a custom user title of "fucking 08" would work for 08s? and the fucking NC for all non calgarians?

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

I dunno, it's not horrible that this is still a predominantly calgary forum. It's nice to be able to reference various places/stores/events in your posts and have 95% of the forum know exactly what you're talking about and vice versa with you understanding theirs

I think it is good to grow, but at the same time having based out of calgary allows us to have some neat discussions.

Such as if people have experience with a specific company
    People seeing crazy car accidents
    etc.

If we went to broad all of those threads wouldn't really appropriate anymore
    Cos...

i do not oppose growth, so long as the banning of '08's is done in a democratic manner, ie "ban+1"
sig deleted by moderator, because they are useless

I don't oppose growth, but when people are posting "Hey here's an exotic car rental place opening up in So.Cal" ummmmm okay.........

    zactlyyyyyy
as much as you can say were not "based out of calgary" thats the way we all (calgarian beyonders) look at it. this is the ONLY forum i use. and its because it is so calgary oriented.
i hate other forums. they're too random and "impersonal" to me. i dont like talking to strangers who have no common grounds with me. even if we do have cars in common, living in the same place is a whole lot better.

I totally agree, the amount of familiarity that comes with a local forum is nice.
