Better theory than a drunk architect, but let's not forget, the first road in Calgary had to come from _somebody_, and he could have been drunk, although you would think that the next sober person would notice this.
I read a book about the beginning of Calgary. What a fucking gong show it was. Calgary Cavalcade by Grant MacEwan. Its not in print, but Im sure there is a copy on Ebay or some where, used book shop or something.
But as I understand it the roads slant because they are parallel with the rail line
