jimmys bar inside the James hotel. chill lounge with sick views of the city. gansevoort hotel has a pretty sweet lounge as well in the mpd.

soo many good restaurants! mermaid oyster bar has a killer lobster and truffle Mac n cheese. their mains and appies are also really good. balthazar restaurant and bakery, down the street from it spring street natural. db bistro moderne for some really good French food. w53rd and 6th is a really famous food cart.

tons of shopping. Check out flight club in Soho if youre into Nike shoes and hats.

meat packing district is where most of the clubs are. a lot of the doors are super tough on the weekend.

do a lot of walking. youll be surprised as to how many places youll accidentally see that you recognize from movies or tv shows. I found it to be pretty neat.

edit: I love nyc and the people. I never found traffic to be too bad. taxis are cheap and fast. subway is confusing. I hope to be back in June.

anyone been to NYC during the 4th of July?
Will be heading there from Jul 1st to 5th (4 nights) and we are hoping to see the fireworks at a good spot.

BTW is The Gotham Hotel any good and is $780 for 4 nights a good deal?

You can get a very good view of the fireworks just by arriving close to the river like 1.5hrs prior to the fireworks going off. Just pick a spot you want to watch from, get to the closest station, and then walk as far as close as they will let you go. It was really fun to be in the crowds and see all kinds of people with their kids, start conversations with randoms around you (who were pretty chill btw).

yeah, the people there were actually generally very nice.

like many places, it's mostly the tourists who were a-holes, lol.

If the 780 bucks for 4 nights includes taxes, that's a really good deal for NYC.

A lot of people rave about Becco (Italian) located on W 46th Street (I can't remember exactly but it was somewhere in the 40s) I ate there and it was delicious! It's frequented by locals and tourists so that's a good thing (if locals eat there, it's not a tourist trap)

Seriously, do a search on here. There have been tons of quality threads about NYC. I will just talk about the food. We use Yelp. Look for anything 4*+ and 100+ reviews and you are set. If you are looking strictly for great taste, try using the Michelin recommended restaurants. NYC has arguably the best of the best restaurant collection in the world! If you are looking for a particular type of cuisine, check out high rated places that have a 'prix fixe' menu. Its the best way to try it out without breaking the bank. Any specific question...ask away.

Metropolitan museum is definitely worth checking out. American museum of natural arts was a waste of time IMO.
