    Default Fire in Mckenzie Towne

Apparently there were sirens going at 3am last night and this morning on the way to breakfast we sadly found out what the commotion was. Those brand new not even finished being built condos went up in flames beside the shoppers. They're still smoking and 2/4 of the 4 way stop is closed off. Really unfortunate but I don't think anyone was living in them yet. Anyone have anymore details?

At approximately 2:40 a.m. the Calgary Fire Department responded to the 600 Block of McKenzie Towne Drive for reports of a condominium complex under construction on fire. Upon arrival, crews encountered two buildings on fire. One condominium complex has been destroyed while two have been heavily damaged. There are a total of five buildings under construction. Crews continue to knock down the fire, which is under control.
Residents in nearby buildings have been evacuated from the area and there are no reports of injuries. Several roads in the area have been closed down including McKenzie Towne Drive/Gate and Link. In addition, residents impacted by the fire can find shelter inside buses located in the Calgary Transit Parking lot in the area of McKenzie Towne Lake/Gate.

3 garage fires, and the condos... sounds like arson.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

So that's why it smelt like campfire this morning.

Just drove by and damage is pretty damn bad but they're lucky it jump to all or more buildings.

The mosaic ones across from Zen.

Just walked to Shoppers with my little guy and his wagon. Roads still closed. There is ash everywhere and 2 entire complexes are wiped out.

It was a BIG fire. I heard it at 3am and I'm on the other side of the lake. Didn't realise what happened until this morning.

The good thing is that they were still under construction so nobody got hurt, although one of the units is owned by a friend.

I'm an owner of a unit in the Mosaic Mirage. Thankfully the fires were a ways away from my 'block'. Oddly enough, I slept through the entire thing. Gas is shut off currently, and we were unable to leave the location this morning. Definitely sounding like foul-play. Some of the heat damage to the cars on the street is insane.

Buddy of mine just sent me video that he took of the fire last night. He was there before any of the fire trucks showed up, you can hear them arriving in the background. Lots of people out, he thought it was arson because they thought they saw another small fire about 100 ft away from the burning condos

I heard all the sirens a 3am. Woke up and had ash, burnt wood in my backyard. Thought someone of my street had a big bonfire last night!

^^ When I was walking you really noticed the ash and burnt wood that was pretty much charcoal all over the place.

It's pretty clear that it ended up all over the roads etc because of too much water on for the storm drains (they have filters on them still in that area). Everywhere the water went it left a lot of pieces of burnt wood and ash.

I finished work in mckenzie towne at like 2:45, must have been completely oblivious to the fires. Although I did notice 2 fire trucks blazing south on deerfoot, was kinda curious what it was.

Wow... IF those 3 Teen boys caused millions of dollars damage with this stunt and impacted 100's of peoples lives negatively. I wish they would be held totally responsible, but they'll probably get off with a slap on the wrist.

Anyone see the picture in the Herald? Cars close to the blaze just melted on the side facing it!

Both entrances to the townhouse development were blocked off most of the morning and night yesterday. Finally let me out in my car around noon. So much for a productive morning at the office! Had to park on the street last night... One hell of a cold walk at 6:00 this morning.

Saw the video footage on the news last night and can't believe I slept through the entire thing. I could see the burned down units from my bedroom window, about 400yds away. Guess that's what happens when you only get a couple of hours of sleep the previous night!

Yah I have no idea how anyone near by could sleep through that. At about 4am I was coming from bridgeland and could see the smoke before 130th ave... I took the route through the circle past the skate park to try and look. Insane amounts of police/fire trucks had the whole area cut off but the blaze was very large.

Sorry for any of those involved in that. Fucking arson teens...
