would it have been an alternative to have the tile cut using a waterjet table?
disclaimer: I know nothing about tile

Looks sick but I dunno, pretty big focal point. They gonna mount a flat screen up there or what?
I like it! What do you do with all the broken pieces, warranty back to the manufacturer?
I really hope not. Maybe it's just me but I don't like the look of TVs over fireplaces.Originally posted by Stephen81

I appreciate the end product but I don't understand why these large format pieces are in vogue for now.
Well done Dave!

I say stupid shit all the time.
I was just going to say the same thing. This isn't a critique of Dave's work at all, but I don't like the look of those large pieces. They remind me of wallpaper for some reason.Originally posted by JRSC00LUDE

People like things that look expensive, and these huge peices are such a pain in the arse to install, that they are only used in expensive installations. ergo, they are fashionable.

Just get smaller tile and push them together as tight as possible, barely any grout to use and make sure to use the same color grout as the tile.
BAM, budget baller! (kidding)
Looks awesome Dave! But I liked the deck fireplace you did earlier in the year better.
Add me to this list, just seeing a picture of a TV above the fireplace is enough to put a kink in my neck. Not to mention, it just looks....off.Originally posted by roopi

Looks good Dave, I can appreciate how you used L shaped pieces around the fireplace and not a mitre or butt joint.
This actually caught my eye the most as well. Small detail but awesome effect for the finished product.Originally posted by sxtasy

Is this in Marda Loop? I'm about 95% sure this is my friends million dollar duplex haha.

million dollar duplex
I know nothing about nat-gas surround installations, but that might as well be a large sheet of laminate from first glance (fire hazard??). Not many people are going to touch it and figure that out.
Ceraminc around the door, sure - but that huge piece is just asking for a kid to toss something and have it busted
I had to laugh when I typed that. I mean it's nice, but not $1m nice.Originally posted by killramos

Yea, that's Calgary though. No one will believe when you tell them how much your place costs.Originally posted by BavarianBeast

Some of the things that break the million dollar mark these days...
