Default Some of my outlets stopped working

I woke up yesterday and my bedside clock was off, that's weird. When I checked the outlet I noticed it wasn't working. I checked some others and this is what I got:

    NOT WORKING
    - master bedroom outlet 1
    - master bedroom outlet 2
    - master bathroom outlet

    WORKING
    - master bedroom light
    - master bathroom light
    - master bedroom closet light
    - everything else

I do know that everything not working is on the same circuit so I thought it was a no brainer that a breaker got tripped. When I checked at the panel I realized nothing is tripped, it's fine. The outlets just aren't working on that circuit. What would cause that?

How old is your house? go back to the panel you should have a arc fault breaker in there. Flip it back and forth a few times. Typically all bedroom plugs are on the same circuit. Bathrooms will be on another breaker.

Maybe your bathroom plug is tripped and your bedroom is on it. Try pushing the button on the bathroom plug. Would have to be in a older house for this to be the case

GFCI in the bathroom? Hit the reset button and see if you got power.

Did you physically move the breaker? They can trip without appearing to have.

You guys were right, it was the GFI but I didn't think to check it because the GFI switch is on an outlet in the secondary bathroom next to the bedroom. My girlfriend was getting ready in there right before I woke up, she had a meeting in Edmonton so she must have been using too many devices. Problem solved.

It's bad practice to have the bedrooms on with the bathrooms. When I wire a house all the Gfi's go on a circuit. And all the bedroom plugs go on their own circuits.

I only have one bathroom with a GFI
The home inspector told me all the outlets in other bathrooms were protected by the same one. Is that normal?

    Easier said on new developments.

Reno's, sometimes you just work with what you got.

Got a bathroom fan wired to kitchen plug GFI. Guess it's safe. But if you run a toaster, coffee maker and fan all at once, it'll pop.
Easy to just move the toaster. House is 1950s. Developed basement.

Another thing that could cause part of your circuit to fail is that one outlet fails and the outlets and lights after that one would be dead too. I had that happen in my parents place.

The outlets when they were wired back in 1990 when the house was built was done with the push in quick connects. One of the quick connect connections started to fail and everything after that stopped working. Worst part, the fucking circuit spanned all 3 levels on one side of the house, was not fun to troubleshoot.

What would the opening have to do with the circuit?

Because it affects the electrical code and how the plugs in the bedroom have to be wired...

Yeah that's how my place is wired, but MGCM's post seems to indicate there's a bit of code funkiness that involves arched entrances to bathrooms.

Probably something to do with them being considered the same room?

I think its to stop idiots from electrocuting themselves by plugging toasters into outlets in the nearby room and dropping them into the bathtub. i think its a distance thing from the bathroom.

I'm not an electrician but i think the presence of a door changes things from what my brother ( electrician ) told me.

The outlet right outside my bathroom in my bedroom ( no physical door) is on GFCI, 2013 build.

1999 build, master bedroom on separate circuit from the bathroom due to fancy archway haha. Both master bedroom bathroom and 2nd bathroom are on the same GFIC plug, which is located in the other bathroom. Had this same headscratcher 10 years ago.

Yes, it's normal. A GFCI outlet can protect 2-3 others (maybe 4, can't bother to remember).

Recent code requires bedroom receptacles to be on an AFCI, those things are not compatible with GFCIs, so anything newer will have separate circuits (hopefully).

Interesting, I was wondeirng how you knew the bathroom door was arched. There isn't actually any door on the bathroom, it's just an open archway from the bedroom.

Because a square entryway without a door looks awkward and causes unnecessary structural stress
