Default Patio Season is here - Where is your favourite?

It's that time of year where nobody works Friday afternoons! Weather is supposed to be hot this Friday. Wondering what your favourite hidden jem of a patio is. Here's some of mine:

    - Anything along the sunny end of Stephen Avenue (Hyatt, Bear and Kilt etc)
    - Last Best - if you want a more enclosed atmosphere
    - River Cafe - if you want to feel like you've left the city

There's a rooftop patio at the 10th ave location?? I knew there was one from Whiskey days but didn't realize it was re-opened...

Yeah! Just up from the one side with the mezzanine/ping pong table/bar. Not the bourbon room side.

    What's a jem?

I like Joyce on 4th for car watching and Wildrose Brewery.

Don't go to either though,it's already hard enough to get a spot outside!

    National's rooftop is awful.

I think Cactus club downtown is putting in a massive patio.

National on 8th has corn hole and ping pong, and they have little fans that mist you too.

Plus they always seem to be packed...

Yup, so packed it takes an hour to get a drink at your table.

Honestly, for me, I love Brewhouse in Harvest Hills. Always sunny, the service is way better than any place you'll visit downtown, they always have the games on, the food is good, and when they're using 11/29 it's nice to watch the planes land/takeoff.

Personal choice, but of all the patios I've been to in the city, nothing downtown compares for me. National rooftop still has the usual clientele from the West days. (Think brown guys in leased range rovers wearing waaaaaaay too much cologne...)

I like Earl's and Shark Club down in the South. Brewsters rooftop patio in Mckenzie Towne is nice too.
Someday we may need to activate the halo structure off Deerfoot and destroy the North East.

Ship n Anchor on 17th. Or National next to it. I like that they are not in a residential nor a concrete jungle type of a setting.

I like these as well. Shitty part is they are always at 150% capacity and louder than the bikers ripping down 17th.

Good food and people though. I like National anywhere. Westhills is quieter.

IMO this is the most overated patio. Always have smokers right there, homeless guys coming by asking for money, overcrowded and with poor service.

I guess for some those reasons mean character... to each his own.

1410 has a nice rooftop on 17th, but like most bars on 17th it gets packed pretty quickly when the sun is shining. I think that is kind of a given though - if the bar is any good, the patio isn't going to be empty.

Fan of the Hudson's Shawnessy patio. Get the odd guy in a car trying to blow past the patio on nice days (Today was a Red 2014ish mustang, and a supercharged 2013+ Challenger)

For me being on a patio for drinks means more than just having a drink under the sun with my hair blowing in the wind - I can do that on my deck at home with no people around. Ship n Anchor gives the best of people watching there is with people from all walks of life and states of mind around. It's also the best place to strike up conversations with random strangers and make new acquaintances. Service ain't all that, but beer is beer and it is served up quickly. Food ain't all that great either, but beer is beer. There truly never is a dull moment at Ship.
