    Default Weed Wacker/Trimmer Suggestions

I'm going to be picking up a gas trimmer soon, and looking for suggestions. Don't care if it's 2-stroke or 4-stroke, looking for best value with a budget of $300.

    TIA!

Thank you for not going electric. I can't stand those and neighbours spend 2 hrs snipping the lawn.

All I know is Stihl and they've always been reliable.
Could pick up used Honda. Most just need a carb kit and cleaning since no one seems to clean them up.

Also those auto line feed heads are great. The ones you tap on the ground to get more line out.

Edit: Also new gas always helps to get them started.

My electric trimmer makes quick work of whatever the hell I throw at it. So does my electric mower.

I do the entire front/back of my house, including trimming, in 90 minutes.

I have no idea what the hell people's issue with electric trimmers/mowers are, as mine (Kobalt something or other) have done a great job since I got them.

If I ever need to buy another trimmer, I'm going with a battery one. I move so quick with the corded one that I spend more time moving the cord than snipping. Also enjoy the zero maintenance of electric.

I have a Husqvarna 122C Gas powered trimmer. Bought it after demo'ing my neighbours (and also because it matches the mower).

Couldn't ask for more. Great power. Awesome auto feed system for the wire that just works great. Nice balance and weight. Only con is its 2 stroke so i do have to deal with pre-mix but its the only 2 stroke engine i have so a small jerry will last a whole season.

Paid $169.99+tax but they sometimes go on sale for $150+tax.

    +1

My current yard is pretty small, but I have been using battery mowers/trimmers for years and never had a problem with longevity as long as you buy the appropriate size for your lawn.

With weed wackers in particular its not like having additional power makes any kind of difference ( only so much force you can put behind a spinning string ).

I can see the appeal of gas mowers if you have an acre scale lawn and find your battery getting weak towards the end of the mow. Or if you have a habit of letting it grow a lot longer than you should.

If you do decide to consider electric I have always had great success with simple Black and Decker.

I just switched from a Ryobi gas (2 stroke) to a cheap Black and Decker battery unit.
The Ryobi works fine, but it's loud and smelly, sometimes hard to start.
Got rid of a 2 stroke mower last year, so now almost all of my yard machines are 4 stroke or battery. All the 2 strokes had different mix ratios, was a pain in the ass.

I've had a Stihl in the past, and my dad currently has a Honda 4 stroke. I might shop for a Stihl, since I've also had good experiences with it.

I should get first right of refusal, it's my thread!

I literally said "gas trimmer" in the post you quoted me in haha. In case you missed it, the one in your link isn't gas powered.

I live in an older community so have a pretty big yard. More importantly, I just plain like using gas yard equipment. Likely will never go to electric.

After doing a bit of research, I decided I wanted to go with a straight shaft trimmer. Ended up with the following one, as it has numerous good reviews around the web and a 7 year ( ) manufacturer warranty.

    http://www.costco.ca/Hitachi-21.1-cc...100284287.html

Added bonus is it's available at costco for easy return/shipping/etc.

    Thanks for all the responses!

Sorry but thats not true at all. I used a Stihl gas once and compared to my current Black and decker battery weed wacker theres no comparison in terms of cutting power. I had to borrow my bros stihl while i was getting a new battery under warranty and i had no idea how weak the battery one was. It would take me a couple passes to get the grass around the light posts and fence with the battery one but the stihl was a one shot kill.

I'm still a fan of battery mower and trimmer though because its a nice feeling to push button start and because its so quiet sometimes i can still mow my lawn after 9 without disturbing anyone. If you have a large yard than gas for sure but if youre in an average lot than battery works fine.

Bump. The battery on my cheapo walmart B&D had completely gone to shit after 2 summers... any good deals now during the winter? Aiming for under $150. Probably going gas.

This is the one I ended up getting (my link was to costco, but it's apparently not sold there any more).

    https://www.amazon.com/Hitachi-CG22E...b_title_garden

It's over your budget, but if you spend a bit more (still <$300), you can end up with something that lasts a decade.
