Wondering if anyone else experienced this issue:
Two sets of powerline adapters, different brands, have gone dead in about 2 years. They are lasting about a year then dying.
Is this common?

Never used one but can you just get a good router and use WiFi? Then you hopefully wouldn't have to worry about replacing the powerline adapters all the time.
Do not plug them into surge protectors.
haven't run them through surge protectors, always straight to wall.
my Samsung smart tv "forgets" wifi setting often, so I have to disconnect and reconnect to get it to function properly.
thinking wiring on cord will stop this issue

Yes that is 100% normal, I wouldn't recommend using them.
Best case scenario: Run a wire.
Option B: Get a couple quality matching WAPs that can can go into bridge mode, set one as a WAP and one to bridge. Quality > Budget go Pakedge WK1 or WX1. Budget > Quality get a couple mid to upper end Asus routers and set one to bridge.
Option C: Some others in my industry swear by the ethernet over coax MOCA adapters, but I don't have personal experience with them. I'm told they work as well as the ethernet over powerline adapters but don't constantly die after a year or two.
I've tried shit brands and money-is-no object power-line adapters. All will sputter and fail eventually. A lot depends on your home wiring - how much noise there is in the system and number of electrical transient events.
Switched to a wireless bridge and no more issues.

I've been using 4 WD powerline adapters for a few years now with no issues. All are direct to the wall with no powerbars. One is for a printer so not really high usage but the other 2 are on tvs and used very frequently.
I've had the D-LINK DHP-701AV Powerline AV2 for almost a year now and since install I haven't touched it.
Nothing else shares the outlet on either end - no idea if that makes any difference...

I have been using my Powerline adapter for a few years now and it's still working.
However, the connection on it seems to be capped around ~30Mbps which is kind of unfortunate.
I'm likely going to switch to wireless bridge, since I need wifi to my living room chromecast, which is pretty much a dead zone at the moment
Thanks for the replies.
rather than trying 3rd set of powerline adapters, going to switch to a wireless bridge.
Having trouble finding them.
Can someone suggest a vendor, and make/model they'd recommend?

I have setup 5 of these guys as bridges.

Lower end of the performance spectrum - if youre into serious (4K) streaming then Id look for something higher up the chain.
Don't have a 4K tv, so this should match my needs.
$39 on amazon, done deal.
thanks for the help!

yes they get unpaired for some reason and just flash lights..
they are getting more powerful, people down the street/ many houses away can use your internet if you do not turn on encryption.
When that happens can you re pair them?
When working properly is a wired bridge better for streaming than a wireless router?

In my opinion and experience only, offloading the WIFI to a dedicated external device (then connecting with LAN) generally seems to work better than that trying to use built-in WIFI - on may devices.Originally posted by cidley69
