Default Free credit score through Borrowell, MOGO, and CreditKarma

    As seen here:

    https://www.borrowell.com/free-credit-score/

    Threads on RFD about it:
    https://www.google.ca/search?q=borro...s.com&safe=off

    Others:

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskat...heck-1.3725656

Just signed up myself, and it's accurate. Glad to have such an offering available.

EDIT: Looks like mogo.ca and creditkarma.ca offer the same.

So Equifax is basically useless now? How can free credit reports be legit?

This just pulls a soft query on you which only shows your score. It doesn't show any other relevant information.

They give you the free score in hopes that you'll get a loan through them. Get enough people signed up to see a free score some of them are bound to get a loan.

I use mogo for this purpose, in addition to pulling a hard copy once a year from the bureaus. Working well so far, will likely end up getting a loan via Mogo next year some time, I like the interface and some of the features they're coming up with are pretty smart.

Did equifax today before seeing this thread, so decided to do creditkarma and see how they compare score-wise and service-wise.

    Equifax 799
    Creditkarma 808

Previous equifax from September was 806. Also creditkarma does show details, not just the score. One thing I noticed is that Equifax has my Bell bill which currently has my unpaid December balance showing (Due Jan 9th), Creditkarma just showed my credit cards which may explain the discrepancy in scores.

Just FYI if you use borrowwell or MOGO you're likely to get offers/spam for loans, you're basically giving them your personal info in exchange for a credit report.

You can get it free via Equifax if you cancel within 30 days anyways. You can literally sign up, get your score/report, and then cancel without issue.

    http://www.consumer.equifax.ca/partn...r/free_en.html

They always have a free 30 day promo going and I usually check once a year and always am able to get it for free again.

I mean I'm too cheap to pull it on equifax to double confirm haha

I usually check equifax once a year to make sure nothing fishy is going on but seeing how borrowell uses the equifax risk score, I'm simply assuming it would be the same if i check equifax direct site.

Just find it hard to believe I would get a 69pt jump in 6 months

Check the link I posted a few comments back, free equifax trial for 30 days, you can sign up (make a new username if youve used equifax in the past), get your score, and then cancel*

    * Might have to call in to cancel, can't remember but it wasnt that bad last time.

A decent chunk of your score calculation is utilization, so if you have a 5k$ credit card that had 4k$ balance on it that statement versus 500$ now, even if you paid off both in full at the end of the month, the former will slightly reduce your score because of high utilization.

haha yes. I saw that. I guess I'll just stay on the high and leave it as is. Celebrate being over 800 credit score for the first time ever.

The only thing i did differently was get a Rogers mastercard in the summer. The limit is only $4k but the 1.75% cash back is really good so use it to pay for the cell phones. With the way the gf hits me up I'm making multiple payments to maximize the points lol maybe the bureau hit around the same time i had a negative balance who knows.

vs my TD visa the limit is $22k but it's untouched 1.75 > 1% lol

Of course these life hacks aren't necessary if one was just simply rich haha

First time I've ever checked my credit score but just used Creditkarma and it came back with 850? Guess I'm good to get a big loan
