Likely a water pipe that is loose and banging on a metal stud. Something like that.

Have you seen signs of water leaking or are you hearing the pipe make noise when you run hot and cold water from expanding/contracting in a tight area?

djmr2 - if it's banging behind a wall, might be the "water hammer" effect. In which case there's a few ways to troubleshoot first.

No water damage, not leaking. Its the water pipe for baseboard heaters in a condo. There's enough movement in the pipe to make it bang against the metal stud, there is likely an electrical cable wedged between the water pipe and metal stud.

I've asked the condo maintenance to check the water pressures and for any air, they say its fine and that the air has an automatic purge valve at the top of the system...

What do you suggest for checking if its the water hammer effect? To me, it sounds like for sure it is because it continues all day/all night on a pipe that is constantly being fed water (baseboard heaters).
