I've noticed a pretty dramatic big uptick in up-sell tactics at TD over the last 5 years or so, it is starting to become an issue for me whenever I need to do anything in the branch.
To do something simple that falls outside of EasyWeb, I pretty have no choice but to to sit through a high pressure sales pitch. The last time they forced me to come in for something I used to be able to do over the phone, some slick super rep just talked over me for 15 minutes while he pitched the idea of how I could save for my first home using a TFSA and ultra low interest GIC's. He actually started putting it through without my consent, and I actually had to raise my voice and start telling him "OK, whatever you are doing... stop right now... look at me, you need to stop". To this day, both my wife and I have unfunded TFSA accounts
Not as bad as Walmart though... my wife got a gift card there for a somebody in my family that actually likes that place (so poor and stupid), and they told her "If you give us your name and number, we will send you another gift card of the same value as part of a promotion!". So she did, and then they asked to see her drivers licence to verify her identity. Anyway, she was feeling suspicious about it, and went back in a few minutes later to ask more about the promotion... turns out there was no such thing... turns out, the mother fucking cunt behind the counter signed her up for a credit card without even telling her. It was a huge PITA to get it cancelled, and everybody we talked to at Walmart was apologetic, but they basically admitted they push their staff to do that to people.
