My GS6 is 2 years old now and has only gotten faster with better battery life with the updates - zero issues with it. My mom, brother, and GF are also still rocking GS6's and none have any of the above issues after ~2 years of rough use. If you have 4hr battery life without a misbehaving app obviously being the culprit, you should be going after a warranty replacement. Not quite as old as your S4 but a few guys at work just replaced their GS5's, and they worked perfectly up until they decided to order a 7/8.
If you're actually having those issues, they are definitely not normal and you should get the phone replaced under warranty.
The S4 is dated, but for what I need a phone for it works just fine (or it did). I had actually replaced the battery in it at the end of last year. Within a month, it was back to having crappy life again. My Brother actually has the same phone, his is just as glitchy as mine and he also blames the recent updates.
I've been talking to my coworkers with newer Samsung phones as well about their experiences, basically they are all experiencing all the same issues we are.
I am just fed up at this point. This is characteristic of Samsung in my opinion. I have an 8000 series 3D Samsung TV, and half the fucking apps don't even work on it anymore. They pulled all of my 3D content, their forced version of Netflix doesn't even work most of the time, and even though it has a camera on the top, there isn't a single app offered that allows you to video conference. So annoying, for a high end TV it is sure a piece of shit.
By comparison, last year I had somebody swipe my phone and had to use my old BB Bold for a few weeks while I looked for another one. Despite being absurdly outdated with more than 5 years of use on it, it worked perfectly. No glitches at all, it automatically synced up with my e-mails better than my S4, had minimal data usage, and the battery lasted for a couple of days at a time.
Me and Samsung are breaking up
