Kitchen Cabinets - Maple vs Alder quote:

In the process of building a home. When it comes to cabinetry, are there any specific reasons to lean to one type of wood/grain over another?

From a quick google search, alder seems to be softer (does it really dent/scratch that easily?), whereas maple is harder/more durable.

Not sure if Calgary weather should play a role in the decision?

We are leaning towards a dark grey or brown (in alder).

Any input is appreciated.

Our kitchen is Alder. We have had it for 6.5yrs now. Well built and durable, but we aren't hard on it either. I like the grain over maple.
