What was the reason for the chair closures?

Went to COP and I'm getting the hang of it, can turn, carve and break most of the time nowOriginally posted by J-hop
YouTube some stopping drills to do. You'll get it!
One thing I'm realizing is that my old school skis (180 long) might be too long for me (I'm 5'8") so on our way home we drove by Sportcheck and picked up a pair of Atomic Nomad Blackeye Ti Skis 160.

You should've rented and gone out a few different times with different skis to see what works for you. Some shops will credit your rental costs towards new skis. Instead of just going and rolling the dice that the skis will be what you need or some lodge bunny salesman thinks you need

if it's the same concept as snowboards, TBH I wouldn't really be able to tell the difference between different ski types and brands.Originally posted by g-m

Looking at the specs and talking to their ski specialist, it seems like these new skis will be good enough for my need.
anything than my current skis would be an upgrade
and I can ski with these already
Haha fair enough. But things like turning radius, total length, stiffness, and camber/rocker design can make a way bigger difference than you think

Nice, yea I don't know anything about skis but my buddy is about 5'8" and I think he is on 160s as well. So by that one data point I think the new ones will be much nicer for you.Originally posted by taemo

well i can ski now, turning and stopping has become natural and my legs are not trying to cross each other anymore
i think what helped the most is having an empty hill and not having to worry hitting anyone else.
I am by no means a great skier, but I can say this from my own "relearning" experience; 'earning to ski slow and controlled is way harder then skiing fast and wide. I have spent some time working on my turning, small short turns at slow speed then gradually building speed. This means I tire less and when I really need to turn hard (carve) I can.Originally posted by taemo

Plus you take up less of the hill allowing better skiers to go around you.
If you ever need a buddy to ski with pm me haha

So more beyond armchair activism at work again?
Has anyone been to Costco lately, and seen what the options are for lift tickets to Kicking Horse?
Looking to head out there for this weekend.
TIA

Was at louise last sunday and it was awesome. Beautful sunny day, very few lift lines despite a pretty full parking lot. I like louise over shine because it spreads people out way better. Rode ER6 for the first time ever and it was amazing, the whole ridge acted like a giant snow fence and we had knee deep turns in spots. Cant wait to get back this weekend.
XL line in the park isn't as good as it was opening weekend. First 2 jumps aren't very big and the 3rd pops you really high but the landing is pretty flat. Had to power squat on a few landings even though I was coming down in the 'sweet spot'

current ski quiver:
park, all mtn 181 ON3P Kartel 98
park,all mtn: 181 Armada AR7
big mtn, pow: 185 Armada JJ
That's always been the key to good days at Louise, it might not snow as much as sunshine but if you know how the winds blow then you can find deep wind deposited snow even if it hasn't snowed for days.Originally posted by asp integra

Snowmobiling to McMurdo hut this weekend for some ski touring. Should be good, supposed to snow 45cm from now till Friday afternoon! Higher elevation so it misses the heat

Hello from Big White! Awesome mountain.
Had a pretty amazing weekend at Kicking Horse, took the Stairway To Haven up to Fuze Bowl, and it was pretty amazing.
Saturday the front lower face was pretty icy, but it snowed overnight.
Made it up to mountain for 7:30 am for first tracks!
Stellar mountain, was not expecting how long it takes you to do one full run from top to bottom!
Hope everyone had a stellar weekend!
There was so much powder at Big White over the weekend! My buddy became Jerry of the Day when he slid off a cliff and into a massive tree well lol. Thankfully, some skiers passed us by and helped me save him!
Just returned from Japan today, & had an awesome time.
There was consistent pow if you worked for it.
Annapuri, Kiroro, Moiwa, Niseko were all fun.
Kiroro & Moiwa were my faves. I must stress if you go, to absolutely 100% rent a car/van. 3 or more, get a van thing.
Curious how that went. Did you access through Silent? How was the sled trail in?Originally posted by g-m

Whitefish was pretty awesome on Sunday. 8 Inches of fresh stuff over night.
Foggy up top and on the front side, but the back chairs 11 and 7 were awesome!

haha. Liftees get compensated, for busting people using the season passes of others.
And now I wish I hadn't posted that....
