Good for you, its a rewarding business to be in once you get rolling. The boarder is getting more and more fussy about vehicles coming across. Stay far far far away from ANY non reputable registered importers, several are now out of business and there is a nice 30 day hold on vehicles coming across. US has been absolutely FLOODED with Canadian rigs the past 6 months, and asshats with no morals have been forging everything from lein documents, letters of compliance, registrations, and even switching VIN numbers and flogging stolen trucks. This has caused all the new BS rules.

I sell strictly dealer to dealer now, the guy from US pays me, then he worries about the how/whys of getting the units home.

Yeah the guy I work for has a good basis and has been in business for nearly 20 years. We are focused on quality and not volume, we only send about 30 trucks per month down and pretty much every one is perfect and lower mileage.

Went from oil field truck driver to New car Sales Consultant!

Pretty happy so far with this ( I get to be home every night! ) plus there is a lot of opportunity to make some good cash with a good client base.

If I can learn the sales aspect of this line of work I will be able to transfer it into any sort of sales role with great success.

On the side note if anyone is looking for a GM product don't hesitate!

Exactly the guy you'd want to work with. Sending down a decent volume of good, clean trucks. He probably has a great reputation with his buyers too. Not like every other asshole trying to cash in on importing right now. They've really muddied the water for a lot of US buyers. Some won't buy Canadian imports anymore.

I can't stand how some guys in this business operate, they try to cover up all kinds of shit, can't tell the truth about the color of the sky. All they want is to make a quick buck and they don't care how they do it. Some US auctions won't allow any new Canadian dealers at all. These retards have really fucked up the nice business that importing to the US can be.

Good luck to you moving forward!

    23 - Dental Hygienist

End goal is to to do dentistry, still unsure about specializing though. I know it sounds like a typical 9-5 gig, but I don't work evenings or weekends, which is a big plus for me.

My job is pretty meh, especially lately, but god-damn the things I get to do after my 8 hours a day is up

    41. After spending 15 years with FGL Sports (SportChek), I'm now one month away from hitting my 1 year mark at my current job as eCommerce Catalog Manager for an oil and gas switch/sensor company.

It has certainly been a big change in regards to the industry, with sporting goods being far more sexy and closer to my heart. It has also been a challenging time with my new company in regards to the downturn, no doubt. But what I've gained is extra and more diverse knowledge, noticeably better pay, and the experience of managing direct reports as opposed to just managing projects and the work of 3rd parties.

There is no realistic reason to believe my company won't survive this downturn, but even if I don't stay here forever I feel I now have the experience on my resume to be much more successful in my career through to retirement. It was a long time coming, and I feel I wasted many prime career years listening to promises that never made it to fruition at FGL.

My advice to anyone who feels "stuck" and unhappy in their jobs: Move on. Companies (especially those that as subject to shareholder scrutiny) will say whatever they want in an effort to bleed their resources dry. Words are just words, and if they are not willing to put it in writing you open yourself up to wasting your prime years as well. If you have higher aspirations for yourself, follow them sooner than later.

Good move! Used to spend 1 week a month in St John's. Still have a few good friends at Husky/Exxon. How are things looking there? With the Hercules departing that only leaves them with 2 rigs running right (HGR and WAQ)?
