Will finalize the Google Doc tonight with the rules and etc.

Eliminated the following from the list because they either close, not on the menu anymore, or really vague description (as of this writing):

    30. Baked Rice at Forbidden City
    31. Duck Confit Pizza @ The Yellow Nectarine Lounge
    47. The Greek place in the fasgas on 17th sw, any lamb there can't be beat Needs more research
    57. SIMPLY STEAMED FRESH WILD CAUGHT SEA BASS(G) | LEMON RISOTTO, GINGER, SCALLION,
SEASONAL VEGETABLES, FISH JUS @ VERO

I don't have access to Google Docs right now so I can't upload them.

    Some stats though:

    88 dishes in total
    19 Verified by Beyond.ca

    A Beyonder would statistically have:

    - Seafood then a three-way-tie of either poutine, sandwich, or beef
    - Mostly in downtown

Beyonders aren't fan of desserts; mostly main and apps.

This is skewed right now but Beyonders also like to flock in Bridgeland, then either DT/Inglewood/International Ave (17th Av SE)

Beyonders seem to love Charcut the most with 4 recommended dishes, then Teatro's and UNA tied at 3.

The rule is that one dish from each restaurant can only be on the List.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but everybody talks about Peters- forget that, Boogie's Burgers is amazing. They should be on the list somewhere

Agree that Boogies is better than Peters.
Been going out of my way to get to Nainas lately. I just get the "small" non-stuffed burgers, but they are tasty as hell. Always find the soup too salty, I should probably get the fries.

There's no way Peter's is better than Boogie's Burgers! Which burger at Boogie's should we put for verification?

I'm adding Naina's to the list and the Laurier Lounge duck poutine.

I also updated the front page for a 'verified' list, and the rules. I think foodie meets need to happen.

    ^Foodie meets should definitely happen.

I've had a few at Boogie's and my favourite is still the Blazin' saddles burger.

Taste: The menu says it's "spicy" but it's not really that spicy. It has just enough so that the burger has a good kick to it I guess. I'm not sure how to describe it. I can't really think of a burger that's like it though. I guess that's why it stands out to me.

Presentation: Pretty good for a burger I guess. Cut in half, little toothpicks to hold it together. No excess of sauce or condiments all over the thing.

I'm a big fan of the burgers at Burger 320... namely Gladys Ridge but any of their offerings are awesome!

Looking for people to get the ball rolling! Have to get ready for vacation but I'll try to participate this weekend.

First competition for people to try out and report back:

Dairy Lane Burger @ Dairy Lane

    vs.

Gladys Ridge Burger @ Burger 320

Try either one or both and let us know if it belongs in Beyond's List.

Report back in a week and let the games begin!

The rules are at the front page and on the Google Docs sheet.

That's starting to look really good.
My only other suggestion for this to start getting serious would be some online/beyond voting before a meet/throwdown.

For example, maybe each restaurant gets a score based on each +1 or -1 given in this thread (or maybe you can incorporate a vote system/form on GDocs??), and a restaurant needs a minimum +2 or +3 before it moves onto the battle royale.

I only say that because there's a few entries on the list were probably only suggested by 1 person, and don't really deserve to be on there.

That said, a couple more nominees/challengers:

    - Pho Sate at Pho Chu The
    - Soul in a Bowl at OEB Breakfast

edit: I see that you already have a note regarding 2 or more endorsements... I almost think that should be a minimum requirement

Well, the list is on a tiered system so it does require voting to move up to the 'Verified by Beyond.ca', which is our defining list.

When Beyonders recommend, we throw it into the pile and make them compete against one another and let democracy of our taste buds do the talking.

Rule #1 is that it's Beyond's list and I'll modify the rule a bit:

You can challenge any dish that's been 'verified' but the challenger has to provide a competing dish.

From your list I've had :

Yann Haute's Rose & Lychee Macaron. The rose is so good, and can't go wrong with lychee.

Manwich @ Holy Smoke. I remember it being kind of dry and the sauce is what made up for it. There's like 40 kinds of sauce. Maybe I'm just used to the chinese kind of brisket served in a sauce, rather than the bbq kind.

HOW IS THI THI Sate Beef not verified yet?!?!?!

Ho won salt & pepper squid: seemed standard to me. But I'm not a fan of squid so I'm not the best to ask.

LeVilla Tenderloin: I'm verifying that strait up. And the prices are much more fair than other chophouses I've seen.

I'd like to throw in Duck Poutine @ Wurst...

Why are there like no desserts on your list? hahaha

Flipstah, I tried both that are currently featured in the challenge very recently actually. Maybe other Beyonders can weigh in if they've tried it:

    Dish Chosen:
DAIRY LANE BURGER - Blue Star Diner
Silver Sage natural, grass fed, dry aged beef, tomato, butter leaf lettuce, pickled red onion & DL burger mayo
    Options:
Add local, naturally cured bacon for $2.50
Add Sylvan Star aged cheddar, peppered gouda or gruyère for $2.50
    Add sautéed mushrooms for $1.50
Add farm fresh egg for $2.50

    Taste: 7.5/10
    Presentation: 6/10
Does it Deserve to Be On Beyond's List? (Y/N): No

There are better burgers to be had. Although the Dairy Lane Burger is delicious with a nice, thick and juicy patty, the toppings really fall short. It's a classic burger with a nice sauce, but to make it worth the Top 100 list I'd have to add most of the additional items (cheese is a must for me) which would rack up the bill on an already ~$13 price point. Presentation-wise, you have your standard burger set-up with pickle on top beside a pile of fries. Meh.

    VS

    Dish Chosen:
GLADYS RIDGE BURGER - Burger 320
Juicy beef patty, sauteed mushrooms, local cheese curds, arugula & truffle aoli

Does it Deserve to Be On Beyond's List? (Y/N): Yes

This burger was awesome. I loved the truffle and arugula combo (aquired taste for some) and even though the patty was a little smaller than the Dairy Lane Burger, the combination of the toppings at an $11 price point brought it home. I would have given it a higher score, but the mushrooms were a tad bit on the greasy side, but still VERY good. It didn't come with a side, but if you add on $4 for the garlic parm fries, it would be worth it, cause that was very good as well. But that's beside the point. Presentation was kinda cool, I do like the branded buns and the old-time basket style liner. It's only a take out joint so it was all packaged in a to-go box as is making it fairly easy to eat while sitting outside.

I'll get around to trying more of these to help with verification

Need's more breakfast items if possible, as well as a few more dinner/entree items that are worth mentioning:

    OEB: Soul-In-A-Bowl
Pfanntastic Pannenkoek Haus: Potato, Onion, Bacon & Cheese Pannenkoek (with a side of sour cream)
Blue Star Diner: Pulled Pork Benny
    Brava Bistro: Lobster Poutine
    White Elephant: Matsaman Curry
Boogie's Burgers: Doug's "Don't Fear the Reaper" Burger

    Great list!

Duck poutine at Laurier is fantastic.
LeVilla has a bone in tenderloin as well that is supposedly amazing.. Unfortunately they had run out the day that I went. At Wurst, I like the stuffed chicken wings. So tasty.

Pizza at Cibo is good as well for the price. A little known place called Pizzeria Gaga serves up some nice pie. Clam chowder at Rush. Short rib at Taste. Calamari at Teatro. A ho won salt and pepper squid vs Teatro calamari would be an interesting shootout.

I would be happy to tag along on a foodie meet on a free evening. Sounds like a lot of fun.
