    Default Flying a puppy

Plan to take a puppy with me to Halifax in the spring - anyone know the general cost? I looked up the policies and it lists the carry on sizes and whatnot, but I think thats pretty small and the pup will be bigger than allowed. AC also says it needs to be 12wks old - How do you prove that? It should be about 15 at the time.

Also where do you pick it up on the other end? Don't remember ever seeing one on a luggage carousel.

Westjet is $50 or so each way, pretty straight forward process... have a proper sized crate, and go to the vet for some drugs (they can't be completely sedated, but the drugs are a must... did it once without, never again)

Drop off and pickup is all through the oversized baggage area, be prepared to pull the dog out of the crate so they can put it through the xray and that's about it.

As for age I doubt they will even check, but the med bottle should have its age?

Why not make it a service dog and bring it in the cabin with you? I'm sure it's well behaved and everyone would love it.

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

I used to travel with my Pomeranian as a cabin pet often. If you're not flying transborder, just pay the fee and provide immunization records. Keep your pet under the seat in front of you, and that's it. She was super quiet and never made a peep even on the longest of flights, YMMV.

Rules pertaining to cabin pets can be found on the airlines website. Why don't you start there?

Yup, I bought a bag like this and puppy stayed under the seat in front.

I used to fly with my dog back and forth to NB a couple times a year, age doesn't matter, needs to be under 22-25lbs, as long as your dogs carrier (must be a soft shell) can fit under the seat in front of you. As it's been said, it's $50 and you need to verify first with the airline that they will allow the dog on, because they only allow 1-2 dogs per flight.

    Did they measure it? WJ says: '41 cm L x 21.5 cm H x
    25.4 cm W'

    And yours says 26x26x40

And you just go to a vet and ask for a 'health certificate'?

That wasn't the one I had, and it was just used as an illustration of the type of bag. Westjet didn't measure the bag IIRC, but that was 9 years ago. I didn't have a health certificate either.
