I can only imagine what the gas prices are like in europe.
Last summer I was paying 1.49 euros/litre in Germany

good thing i filled up last night
http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/...edName=topNews
U.S. gas prices have increased 28 cents a gallon in the last 10 days to $3.47 per gallon. Individuals who travel by bus or commuter rail instead of filling up their tanks at that price would save $825 per month on average, the American Public Transportation Association said.

I am seriously considering selling off the car. It is convenient, but also pricey to own a car in Manhattan.APTA said a commuter who relies on public transportation in New York City has the most savings over a driver -- $14,376 a year --

still $1.23 here in nelsonOriginally posted by Twin_Cam_Turbo
I payed $1.31 for 94 in Golden, BC on Tuesday, cost me $80 to fill up my Subaru lol, wonder how much it is out there now.
Sure. Will work in a place like Manhattan. But in a place like San Diego that has absolutely atrocious public transportation it's totally unfeasible. In fact, I have yet to encounter a good public transportation system that would meet all my needs in a reasonable fashion.Originally posted by broken_legs

Does it really have to be like this?
The supposed major cause of local price spikes is because of large scale market and supply integration.
The market yes, the supply no.
When we started running short of gas locally because one refinery went down, did we get relief because of supply integration? No. That incident solidified the fact there is very little supply integration, especially in Canada. Yet it was used as price leverage all across the nation, even though that one refinery was for the most part local in terms of production supply, local meaning Alberta.
There is definitely market integration. But is there really an advantage to having a domestic resource, and the domestic population paying the world price for it? It for the most part just drives up all costs domestically, as nothing happens without energy. Might there be some logic now in a(biting my lip) National Energy Program now that the rest of the world is our captive customer?
Too loud for Aspen
^ NEP was a good idea in principal. There are many other countries subsidizing the price of oil to their population. Energy security for a nation should be the #1 priority. But obviously if we wend up paying more and oil companies are going bankrupt, something is definitely wrong.Originally posted by Maxt

There's the rub. A "reasonable fashion".
Could it be that cheap almost free energy has given us a warped perspective on what is reasonable?

And there is talk that Khadfi might resign? BS, lol. Resign and leave power to one of his kids as a figurehead? maybe.
BTW: At the rate the US monetized its debt, fair value compared to the dollar... Gas *should* be about $11 per gallon in the US.
If Khadaffi was a master strategist, he would leave the entire family fortune to the one daughter. I'm serious.
