Default How to play media files from usb on Nexus 5x

I bought a USB flash drive hoping that I could play audio files from it on my phone (Nexus 5x). However, I am not able to access the flash drive from any media players, including doubleTwist, VLC for Android, and power amp. Does anyone know what I need to do in order to access my USB flash drive and play media files?

My phone does recognize the files, I just can't access them from within the app. However, I'm able to access my network attached storage drive just fine. Go figure!

Have you tried some sort of file-explorer app?

Download Nexus Media Explorer - by far the best app for what you want to do. You can even still use your media player of choice afterwards (Like VLC or MX Player - I like VLC).

Looks like they changed the name of it but it's this:

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...importer&hl=en

It automatically recognizes any USB device, and gives you a nice interface for browsing. Then you choose what default player you want to use and off you go.

Thanks, that worked! Seems to get hot and use the battery fast. Wishing I had just bought a larger capacity phone to begin with (didn't know I was going to put my iPod through the wash haha).

I have a Nexus 6P but should be similar. I was able to get audio to play via the podcast app I use:

    Player FM https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...m.player&hl=en
