I'm on board with Maxt and the others here. Air flow no air flow it shouldn't burst into flames like that, Joker mentioned the high limit should be your defence against such an event. I would also suspect the faulty component isn't rated or isn't capable of handling the voltage applied or current draw or both. You'd think something rated for 208v should have enough over engineering in it to not burst into flames if 240v is applied but Max has mentioned the fact the manufacturer produces a specific 240v model which is a little strange, why make a 208/240v model and a strictly 240v model?
