Default Lapping Laguna Seca in a 355 Challenge

In 2015 my friend Paul and had the privilege of tracking my 355 Challenge at Laguna Seca with the Ferrari Club of America. My car had Michelin Super Sport tires, street brake pads and much softer springs than the original Challenge springs. The prototype car he is chasing is a Nissan chassis with a 500hp F119 (348) engine. It has massive slicks, lots of downforce and great brakes. They were having some handling problems and a lap after Paul passed they broke down going up the hill to the corkscrew. Paul was driving hard to keep up. Enjoy!

    Perfect 👌

I don't know if it is your youtube setting (private).

What a beautiful sound. And wonderful driving. Those down shifts...

Thank you so much for the treat.

Nice cars, good to see them on a track.

Can't say as either car was on it though. I timed laps 1:46 - 1:48. Other cars I know in that range of lap time: 76 280Z with a Honda V6, BMW E30, 89 Fox Mustang, BMW E36, 240SX with a 4.0 L swap, all on 180 treadwear tires, all ChumpCars running 1:46-1:47.

I was waiting for this. Have you drove Laguna before? If not, then you really can't say. There is definitely more time to be had but considering he was driving my car and it was his first time at Laguna I'm pretty sure he was making sure he didn't wad it up. Considering that he was passing 430's, etc. I would suggest he was "on it" more than you say. He was driving in the intermediate group. In the pro group there were a bunch of full on race cars (Ferrari P333, etc) and I'm sure he could have put down a faster time but at what risk?

    I love Beyond.

OP - Here's a cool video of a couple of cool cars @ a cool track.

Some Dick - Ya cool cars, but I spent the time to actually time the laps and they weren't really pushing the limit and I know of cars that are as fast or faster, here's a list I've compiled.

Great video, that looks like so much fun. I think you broke some rule letting a Lambo guy drive your Ferrari though.

Edit: I forgot to mention that my Gran Turismo time on that track is like a 1:30 so Paul sucks.

    Hmmmm 1.46-1.48 in a 355 Challenge, or a 1.49 in an 88 Mustang?

I don't care if the 355 Challenge ran a 5min lap I know which one I'd prefer to be behind the wheel of

In a race environment, in throw away cars

Who gives a shit, this day was clearly a lapping day with your typical Sunday drivers holding up traffic

355 Challenge > 88 Fox Body. Not much of a competition to be discussed. You miss read the intention of the OP, so let's not pretend it's the fault of the other posters here.

There is your problem, you assumed it was a competition. It was not. And we were running 300 tread wear tires, street pads and non challenge springs. The only set up we did was check tire pressures. Your whole "must not have been on it" commentary is what I take exception to. A C6 Z06 runs a 1:40. You ran a 1:49 in a stock Mustang - if you can call a stripped out, caged purpose built race car stock. Paul ran somewhere in between. Could he get it lower? Sure, but who cares? Lapping days are all about having fun, which is what we were doing. You don't drive someone else's car at a track you have never been to and try to set a record - risking an off or worse a total wipeout of the car or someone else's ride. Maybe in a Chumpcar race or driving your own Stang it is worth the risk to drop a couple of seconds but I would never let someone drive my car if I thought they were going to try to be a hero. Make sense?

Then post links to your videos and let us analyze your driving to see how "on it" you were. I'm sure there are a boatload of Internet warriors just waiting to post facts and figures of cars that you should have been faster than.

Please don't let the m.Alex like troll to ruin your thread. We all understood you were sharing a track day, not a solo race.
