    Think of it as this:

Bootloader: Pre-OS boot instructions. Shows the device what partition to boot eg. recovery, download mode, primary os partition

Kernel: Interaction between hardware and software (everything)

Modem: Interaction between hardware and software with regards to the radios

Rom: OS or UI, human interaction with device

This is a very simplistic way to put it but should clear some things up.

The nexus is pretty much un-brickable. As long as you dont ruin the download mode partition you should be able to recovery from anything.

Once you have a custom recovery. You can change to any radio, kernal or rom with no ill effects other than a boot loop. Then you can nandroid restore or just flash a new zip. Hell you can even mis-flash zips meant for the wrong devices and easily recover.

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1432696

will there be any problems, because i previously wasnt on 4.0.3?

also, has anyone tried out the trinity kernel at all?

Nope just make sure you do a full and cache wipe. I know morfic is great with kernels but the i9250 one seems to be in its infancy. Im sticking with franco's for now.

Cos, it definitely does sound like an app to me as well. Start fresh and install them one by one. Also dont restore from titanium backups. I head people were having issues with that causing force closes and whatnot.

Notice any difference in radio quality over stock? I've had my Nexus for a week and I'm not overly impressed with signal strength, so I'm thinking of making some changes to it...

When I first got my Nexus I complained about some dropped calls. Since then though, and for a long time now, I haven't had a singe dropped call and signal strength is always awesome. I even have service in elevators and parkades I never used to with my iPhone. I've been very impressed with the stock radio. No clue what changed but I'm super happy with it.

I'm getting pretty poor signal at work. Even in the city I notice the bars drop slowly and go grey, and then slowly come back up. Neve experienced that with any other phone.

Even in my shack at work I have a cell booster, and with the GN sitting right on the pad the bars still drop out.

Looking through xda now to see if there are any antenna improvements.

I used to get bad signal out at work with the stock radio. I have since switched to XXKL1 and its much better.

    This.

XXKL1 is vastly superior to any other radio out there in my opinion by leaps and bounds.

Running UGKK7 right now. Tried both UGKL1 and XXKL1 and neither seemed to have very good reception. UGKK7 is only "slightly" better, but I can at least make phone calls from inside the shack now.

Only other issue I notice is the service bars sometimes going grey. Even sitting right on the booster it will drop service for a few seconds. Looking around xda, it seems i'm not the only one that noticed this (not baseband related).

Also running the AOKP rom and franco kernal. Better performance, better battery life. So far so good. Camera shutter speed isn't as fast as stock though.

I'm also on xxkl1 radio right now, and I think I liked kk6 better. Also for your service bars going grey, that means that the google sync server connection isn't working. I had grey signal bars for most of January, I finally did a 'factory restore' which oddly kept my 4.0.2 and kk6 radio and all, but restored my google server connection for good. I've since upgraded to AOKP 4.0.3 and Franco kernel, I like the ROM but haven't seen much in terms of battery saving with the kernel running at 700mhz. I don't shut off data when asleep, and being on Bell there's no opportunity to force to 2g.....
