In addition to the 15% foreign buyers tax upfront, there is now a 1% per year tax if empty. That's an extra $30,000 yearly tax on an empty $3 million Vancouver house.

Still, its just money. And if Trump declares war on the world (with a 35% border tax) that yearly fee may seem nearly insignificant.

The border tax is way over-rated as a tool for a trade war. It's basically a lot like a VAT tax.
