    Simple answer, No
You bought two diesel Jettas knowing that there is cheating device installed in the vehicle. So no deal for you

We don't know the Canadian settlement yet.

In US, if car changed hand after Sep 2015, the new owner and old owner can split 50/50 on cash. Not sure how a buyout will work in this case.

We'll likely be lumped into the US decision.

I better get Tony Merchant on the blower and really get to the bottom of this VW debacle.

I do like a lawyer who jukes the figures, Tony get his law licence reinstated?

Rumor of more cheating software found, now in the 3.0L engines.

    bump.

    Audi new cheat software found:

    http://www.reuters.com/article/us-vo...-idUSKBN1300V7

Affects A6, A8 and Q5 with automatic transmissions (so far). The cheat device is a little simpler this time around, only detects steering angle to determine if it should run test mode. If it's in test mode, upshift way earlier, drive like ass, lower CO2 emissions. Drive a little harder or use steering wheel, go back to standard shift program, drive up fuel consumption, drive up CO2 emissions. Pretty ballsy that Audi kept this in the software till this summer, and didn't even notify EPA/CARB on it. They had to find it themselves during standard emissions testing.

The Truth in Engineering slogan is just pure lolz now seeing as the VW bypass software also came from Audi engineers.

It's all a car and mouse game and I'd suspect pretty much any manufacturer is playing around. The trick is too not get caught, kind if reminds me off the NASCAR driver from the 50's or 60's who had his car torn apart because officials suspected he had too large of a fuel tank or something else to allow him to carry more fuel than was allowed. Once NASCAR was done with his car and were satisfied there no cheating, he got into his car, started it and drove away even though his fuel tank was still lying on the ground.
    Will fuck off, again.

There were no rules for using 100ft of large diameter fuel line.

I don't know, i would like the transmission to hold gear a bit longer on turns and/or high load.

But if this software is found in TDI and not gasoline engines, then I guess they are cheating.

Under the deal, owners will be able to sell their vehicles back to the company, trade them in for new vehicles or get them repaired. Affected Canadian owners will also get between $5,100 and $8,000 in compensation, depending on the make and model of their vehicle.

Sucks that since I've posted in this thread that my jetta had two not at-fault accidents (parking lot & rear ended). I wonder how much less I will get now..

Guys in the USA were stripping their cars down and getting the full amount due to the vague VW wording haha - maybe you'll be OK.

So if you keep the car, you get the mount in the middle column only? Any ideas what this might do the resale market?

Wow, one of the few times a generic non-rare car works out to be an OK investment, lol.

Worked out pretty well for me.

    Due to long distance commute(~200km/day)
    April 2014 Bought a used 2012 Golf TDI for $20k cash(40k km)
Aug 2015 tried to sell it on kijiji/beyond for 16.5k after putting 45k km.
Then the diesel gate started flooding the headlines.
Kept the vehicle and putting another 45k km.
Now VW is going to pay me ~$16k(CBB value from Sept 2015)+ $5250 - mileage deduction

Basically I drove it for two years with minimal maintenance cost(with vw $1000 credit) +insurance. Still getting my money back if I choose to return the vehicle.

We can all breathe a little easier. Or, more precisely, all you Canadian owners of Dieselgate-afflicted Volkswagen TDIs can breathe a sigh of relief. You’re not going to get screwed.

I caught this interesting tidbit buried in the FAQ:

There is one exception: if your vehicle is totalled between January 4, 2017 and the optout deadline on March 4, 2017, you are excluded from the Settlement and retain your rights and claims against Volkswagen.
Don't crash your VW between those dates haha.

I like the idea of parting out every removable piece and driving the shell of a car back to the dealer. Got to make some money on the deal somehow. It only needs to be 'operatable and running under it's own power' to get there.
