    Default Water softener question

    Hey,

Moved into a house that doesnt have a water softener, and there are tell-tale signs of calcium buildup, etc on the faucets.

Was wondering, when I do get a softener installed (probably a kinetico), will that 'clean' the buildup on some of these areas over time, or do I have to take all the faucets etc apart and manually clean them?

    Thanks.

I've seen 'hacks' where people use a disposable shower cap and zip ties to make a bag around the installed faucet/spout tip and fill with CLR for a few hours. Worked well on a shower head in a bath tub at my last place.

Yes and no. You may still have to manually remove some of the deposits. We got a used dishwasher than had a bit of buildup but after a week or so of running in our home with a water softener, most of the scale was gone.

Get a whole house sediment filter as well. Really helps the appliances and the softener to work at their best.
