Default Buying used car, came up with a Lien on it.

Hey guys. I was looking into buying a used car and the bank got me to go do a lien search on it, I did. It says the car has 1 lien on it, what does this mean? Can I still buy the car, or what do I have to do to get rid of the lien?

    Thanks

Get the current owner to pay off what he owes on it, and get you proof the lien has been removed...

If the person or persons don't pay the lein for whatever money they owe they can repo it from you. So their loan etc will be paid off and you don't have a car. But yeah tell them that you won't purchase the car until the lein is off, and they show you the lien relase that the car can be sold...

I had a lien on my car... pretty much ownership cant be transfered until it is paid, or you assume responsibilty for any money owed. Don't to that. They can take the car if the current owner doesn't pay it off.

A lot cars will have this because so many people are financing cars and will pay off the dept with what they make. Just make sure you get in writing that the dept will be paid off with the proceeds of the sale of the car.

A good idea is to get them to give you exactly what they owe on the car from the bank, you both go to the bank and pay off the loan and transfer the car to the new owner on the spot.

Most people who have these loans will not be able to pay the dept off before they sell it because they can't afford it in the first place and that's why they are selling.

Nothing wrong with having a lein on the car, but make sure you and the seller arrange to go to the bank together and have the loan paid off. Chances are that the seller needs some of your money to pay off any remaining loan on the car.
