broken Ipod

Alright folks so here is the deal,
Camping this summer someone spilled a drink on my ipod video 30 GB.
Didn't find out till the morning when I found it sitting in a puddle of rum coke.

So naturally it's broken, but the weird thing is everything works fine up until i select a song. the screen comes up saying it is playing but the time will not advance and the song will not play. When i FFWD the song time will change but it will just stay stationary at whatever time I scroll to.

When I plug it into the computer the songs work. I am listening to it right now at work. So it's not the software it's the hardware I think...

Does anyone know where I can go to get it fixed. ( I bought it at Costco and the warranty has expired)
Is it worth saving my ipod for the cost of repair?
Someone in my office told me that the Apple store won't fix it or something along those lines.

If you bought it from costco; they'll exchange it for you. They will take pretty much anything back.

try reformating it. copy your music to the computer or itunes first

plug it into the computer
right click on ipod
chose format
click start

Try reformatting like he said ^, if not, iPods are fairly affordable now, a 80GB is only $250ish now.

Buy another one from costco, return the old one with receipt.

Before you try and reformat or take it back...

Download iDump, slip the iPod into Disk Mode and try to transfer all your songs onto your computer. May as well try and save your hard work.

Probably the hard drive is broken but if your interested in selling I'd buy it for $40 cause my screen is broken and i need a replacement.

Its not broken, just has a hang over. Hair of the dog, another rum & coke will fix it right up.


Seriously though, take a dump of anything you want from it before proceeding with any attempted repairs. You may be able to open it up and clean everything out with rubbing alcohol or a residue-free cleaner. Depending on how much rum & coke is in it this may save you.

Hard drive isn't broken if he can play songs off of it when hooked up to the computer...
