Sounds a lot like Auto X combined with Drifting.

If you want to dumb it down that far, I call it Rally-X on pavement, Ken Block calls it Gymkhana Grid, at the end of the day it would be an amazing experience, even just as a spectator.

SCCA has some shoot out courses like this too; this is an in-car video from a shoot-out that was put up recently. Personally I find this way more intense than Ken Block... but have a look for yourself.

Why can't we have that in or around Calgary??? We need to apply for the "Pepsi Refresh Fund" to have something built specifically for shootout competitions but could also be used for some type of business.........an all year round driving school perhaps?? I wonder how hard it would be to find a wealthy Calgary business owner willing to fund a driving school in or around Calgary that would provide year round driver training and also serve as a place for auto-x/solo1/shootout competitions/rally-x..........minimal spectator area to start with and once the school is making enough money a grandstand could be built. Honestly I know there is enough interest in and around Calgary for this. There is tons of ways to make money, holding nightly drop-in auto-x and driver training sessions for minimal fees but also offering more in-depth sessions for greater price. There is great need for winter driver training and if the course is affordable then it would be easy to get people to take it. I'm half tempted to draw up some type of proposal and start making trips to various businesses around Calgary looking for support. Even just a signature saying they would participate in some type of event offered by such a venue.

Depends on what you mean by "giant slides" and burnouts. If you've ever watched a real gymkhana, sliding is necessary due to the design of the course.

As far as I can tell, that course would work VERY well for "encouraging" hanging the rear end out a bit, especially on some of the tighter stuff. As a very basic example, why do the WRC guys slide their cars around hairpins?

I don't think this is meant to be "huge massive tire smoking doritoes". Ken is a marketing genius, so I'm pretty sure the event has been well thought out. Considering rally cars at x-games are the second most watched sport there, this will probably take off!

Maybe this means we can have something like this in Calgary sometime in the near future

idk about this american take on gymkhana, i always thought it to be in a very confined space which your had to manoeuver you car precisely and accurately with what you had, and never enough room for an all out powerslide. i would love to watch this and attempt it a few times, not the staged ken block stuff but the stuff i think gymkhana really is imo:

e.i these classic videos (like 56k days when you saved each and every 15 mb video lol), iirc its a bunch of US army servicemen on an airbase in Japan.

I'm going to be talking to my local Rally-X director to see if we can integrate some of this for winter Rally-X this year and for the spring/summer series as well. I encourage you to come to Rally-X this winter, i think you will enjoy it.
