    Default PC Build Advice

Hi beyond, I need your help! I have been out of the custom built PC loop for some time now. To give you an idea of how long, my current rig has an AGP graphics card! I have decided it is time to upgrade! I will be purchasing a new PC within the next 30 days or so. Here is the list of parts I was thinking about buying...

    $199.99

    Intel Core™ i7-2600K Processor, 3.40GHz w/ 8MB Cache
    $309.99

    Corsair Hydro H100 CPU Cooler
    $109.99

    Sub Total $2,079.90
    Warranty $0.00
    Shipping $0.00
    GST 5% $104.00
    Total shipping weight: 40lbsTotal
    $2,183.90

In regards to the SSD hard drives I want to run my operating system off of one and my games off of another. Is this a good idea or should I just get a larger SSD and run both my OS and games off of it? To this build I will add at least one 2TB hard drive to store all of my videos and music files. Also down the road I was thinking of purchasing another GTX 570 to double the graphics power of my rig, is this a wise choice? From my limited understanding the processor I have chosen can be overclocked very easily, as such I included a CPU liquid cooling unit. Good idea or bad idea? This rig will be used for gaming and media purposes.

Thanks in advance for all your help and suggestions.

I don't believe the p67 requires tripple DDR ram but requires dual ddr

I would suggest going with one SSD for OS and Crucial programs then having a secondary SATA drive for data & less important programs. IMO 2 SSD's are unnecessary.

Don't get dual SSD. An SSD for boot should be great. Leave your games on a 2TB drive so you can download content to your hearts content

p67 is dual channel, not triple. You can save some bucks there.

For someone who's been out of the loop for custom PCs, you sure are coming back in hard 0_o

To answer your question about the 570 and going SLI with it - that all depends on two big factors: timing and price. If you can get another 570 down the road for cheap, at a time where you can't get a single graphics card that is more efficient/powerful, then sure, why not?

You just need to make sure that your mobo can support it (the one you have can) and that you're keeping an eye on your power and cooling (again, looks good on paper).

For some perspective, I finished my build about a month ago.

    i7 930
    12 gb (6sticks x 2gb corsair tri-channel dominator)
    Gigabyte x-58
    Saphire 6950 2gb
    120 gb Intel 510 SSD
    1 TB WD Black
    1000 watt PSU
    27" Asus LCD

Windows Experience Score is: 7.6 - CPU scores lowest
(no I haven't overclocked it yet)

    Processor: 7.6
    Memory: 7.7
    Graphics: 7.9
    Primary Hard Drive: 7.8

Personally, my opinion on video cards, is purchase the best one you can afford. Then buy a second identical one to crossfire/SLi a year or so later, when it's 1/2 the price.

IMO Windows experience is complete BS, it will always go on your lowest denominator as the score right? not on how the whole system works together. whats the point of it already pointing out the obvious that the owner usually already knows.

novabench and 3DMark i think gives a better idea of your system's capability.

I'm not a fan of Enermax PSUs, grab a Corsair HX1000 for a few dollars more.
