If i was you id get him to pay off the lien and then he can het a paper from the bank saying its paid off

How would he pay for the lien if he needs the money from selling the car to pay it off?

the last car i bought had a lien on it and i gave him the full payment and then went to the bank with him and wached him pay off the lien.
