I think disappointment in airport lounge remarks would fit well in the 'Thinly veiled brag' thread that has disappointingly lost traction.
    I think so. Fly private

I got $350 worth of stuff at CT yesterday for free with CT$. Most of it was also on sale. Then they only took $280 of my CT$ to pay for it.
It's kind of fuckin ridiculous. The card has zero fee and rewards 3% on groceries. I still have another $260 worth of CT$ for more free shit.

Nothing special about it other than basically 1% back like many other no fee CCs.

I'm at the stage of life where I don't eat a lot and travel budget is bigger than grocery budget. Travel CC like Westjet Mastercard seems to get me way better return than PC Mastercard.
I'm in the same boat. Is the tradeoff that better?

I had the RBC Avalon, but I found it pointless as my monthly credit card spend is so little. The annual fee was $150. When it came to redeeming the points after god knows how many years. Only worked on one flight at a discount. I could not use the remaining points for a transatlantic flight. When I added up how much I spent on the annual fee, this made no sense. One is not saving anything.

My ex got me on the PC card. I actually found this useful as my food spend is so low. I could actually cover like 90% at times. No annual fee.

I looked at the RBC West Jet. How good are the points? The annual fee is $39. I know its low. But im trying to work out what is offset in benefits.

Best bet is probably a no fee cash back card in your case

Rogers world elite mc 1.5% cash back everything
Amex simply cash 1.25% and 2% gas and groceries ($300max return)

My fave card is cobalt Amex cuz I’m going for free business class aeroplan flights lol

Cash back is good. Points only valuable if it's something you need anyway. WestJet decent of that's you usual airline. Works for me, not for everyone.

Now that Westjet has more international location out of YYC, I can see myself using them more.

I don't have the basic card, I have this:
    https://www.rbcroyalbank.com/credit-...astercard.html

You get a yearly companion voucher where any international destination is $400. If you go to Japan for example, you already saved like $600-$1200 depends on the season. That's before you start using your card.

Checked bag is always free if you need it. That probably have ~$200 value per trip for 2.

    Then you get to spending.

Say I spend $48K per year on CC and about $8K of that is flights.

    On PC, I get $480.

    On Westjet, I get $600 on the $40K and $160 on the $8K. That's $760 per year.

That said, I hope Westjet can keep the Asian business going. I'm hoping to go to Vietnam via Seoul via code share they just announced next year.

The biggest contribution to the switch is, I don't shop at Superstore any more when surprisingly I can get by shopping at T&T and Walmart for same or less. And less of a shit show in the store like all Superstores.

If you spent $48K a year and had the Roger's WE card and a Rogers service (phone, TV, or internet), you get 2% back on everything. That's $960 regular cashback to redeem on anything.

If you use that cashback on Roger's bills, that turns into $1,440.

There's also no annual fee. If things keep going the way they are, we'll never have to actually pay for our Internet at $90/month.

We do WestJet RBC still, it’s not as good as it use to be but still get some decent benefits.

We got the pc optimum card this year and it’s been great, free delivery service, and good earning on goods we need. Save a couple cents at esso too. We have been doing the grocery delivery for a while now and it’s been great. Still need to go to Costco for meat so that sucks.

RBC WJ also lets you swap the companion voucher for 4 lounge passes now which is nice. I always found the companion voucher to be useless as you still pay so much in taxes anyways there's minimal savings and with international flights it's often cheaper overall to just fly with a different airline. Going to Miami it was a few hundred more to fly WJ with companion voucher than just paying sticker price on some Delta flights

The problem with the WJ card is most of the perks are double dipped by their frequent flyer program.

So if you fly WestJet enough to make it work, you are getting those perks anyway ( bags, lounge, status lift ).

If you aren’t doing it for the extra companion voucher then it isn’t really worth it.

And that Voucher is really only worth it (as just mentioned) if you need to fly at least 2+ provinces over. International, it's shit.

Flying premium to Europe is how you make that companion voucher worth its weight in gold.

The no fee card makes sense. I probably stick with that and keep on perusing sales deals.
Costco does not take Amex otherwise that would have been my go to.

I do about one international flight per year. This year was two and I spent just under 4k on flights this year already. Maybe another later this year.
I will do the same next year. I was eyeing the TD Aeroplan. But I don't like Flying Air Canada. West Jet or KLM is my go to.

The WestJet Card does make sense when one factors in companion voucher and checked luggage.
I just travel with a carry on backpack and I have no significant other. So that kills that.
I looked at Airmiles. But I don't see any benefit. Im not with Rogers and my monthly cell phone bill is like $37.

I guess not having too many monthly expenses right now is a good thing.
