insurance questions (regarding aftermarket)

if i change the steering wheel on my car it removes the airbags, does this mean insurance wont cover me?

how about aftermarket seats? also the aftermarket seats, are they adjustable (soo peeps can get into the backseat?)

shifter i imagine doesnt matter if i change the knob and make it a short throw

I'm pretty sure if you remove the airbags you're going to have a tough time getting insured. I don't think the seats will be a problem aslong as they meet whatever the standard certifications are.

Honestly if you are doing any modifications at all you are going to make things difficult when it comes to insurance.

The steering wheel is a big one because an air bag may be the difference between an accident claim for a few bandages for a bruised face hitting the bag, vesus reconstructive surgery/time off work/dental repair/etc. And if the insurance company isn't made aware of the steering wheel, you get to pay those costs out of your pocket.

The problem is, if you tell your insurer that you have mods, they might not insure you - few carriers want to take that risk.

What's worse is if your car is financed, the finance company might have objections to you modding the car, since they have an interest in the vehicle up until you pay off the loan.

What's usually better is to have a project car insured for PL/PD - insurers care less about older cars, and even less about cars that aren't insured for property damage, and even the ones who do care, usually let it slide if you have another car insured for full coverage knowing that its rare that you actually drive the project car.

The thing is that I'm not trying to be a nice guy. I'm actually trying to be an asshole by telling all of the bandwagon idiots that people can do shit to their cars even if they aren't from Japan.
