Our upstairs en-suite. The tub leaks when full, and the water lines are polyB so should be removed anyway if the floor is open. The floor tile isn't bad but trying to save it rather than lay new floor while everything is out is crazy. Heating as well since it's open.

Going to cut the ceiling and put in a rain shower heat - the light is already in now.

Yep, feeling pretty good about tackling this whole project, exactly how an IT guy should do something like this. Plenty of Youtube.

I'll be following as well since I'm planning the same thing. Was a forced reno. Changed a leaky shower valve and the pipe behind walls isn't secured properly so demoing all.

Mines a 2000 build bathroom, yours looks semi-renovated at least.

    GUT. ALL. THE. THINGS!

My house has PolyB water lines, so if it's up, it's all gotta go. I would lose my mind if the lines started leaking after it's all finished.

The traditional door swung inwards which obstructed the bath/shower so just whip up a pocket door with some old scrap lumber. Or buy a kit!

Will pull that temporary shower light switch over to the main switch panel and make it a triple. Remember to turn off power this time. As long as I'm in the attic, will redo the bathroom vent as well. Stupid Broan builder grade unit is noisy and uses 2x3 venting. New units are 4 inch round.

Found a few tiles in the basement from the previous owner. Thought about using those for the floor but decided to buy some new tile instead. Stuff that isn't discontinued...

I may need to open a wall in the living room (floor below) to get at the water lines - again I could just wait till they leak like I'm doing with the other bathrooms but not this one. It's worth the effort.

Glad I'm not the only one picky about bathroom fans.

    Looks good so far.
Copper water lines/mixing valve looked like my place. So circa 1950s?

Looks more like late 70s or early 80s to me.

If it was the 50s you would have cast iron drains and not ABS.

Mid 1980s. Poly B (the grey shit) was used with plastic fittings but to try and reduce leaks they moved to copper fittings. But it's the actual pipe that just cracks or pinhole leaks randomly over time. There was a class action lawsuit, company folded and Canada owners got screwed. I think USA it's under some huge company like Dupont so they got paid.

I have crimpers and shark-bite fittings so I can cut out any leaky sections (haven't had any since I've been here but I can see PEX segments where the prev owner had issues. And friends in the area have had multiple leaks.

I also replaced all the outdoor lines and kitchen lines already, and the stuff coming from the main to the softener etc. PEX is fine as long as it doesn't see sunlight - don't run it in front of a window or something.

Pete the Plumber quoted 4K to replace lines on a 3 level split like mine but that doesn't include all the drywall/painting/ceiling repair etc. For that sort of stuff I'll fix it if/when it goes, or do it when actually painting/renovating. I still want to do the supply line that leads to all the bathroom runs (it's exposed in a crawlspace so not bad to work on)

Fun fact, that's actually a full sized 3 foot long wrecking bar in his hands. He's just so big it looks like a 10 inch bar.

Nope - removing bath for a full standup with rain shower and normal head (no body jets). There's another bathroom with a bath upstairs. I got the new fan but need to buy the bigger duct and roof vent.

I thought he was a dark elf this whole time.

Plumbing all done, pipes replaced all the way down to the main supply line which is still poly B (another project).

Had some spare wire laying around so why not do heated flooring? Also cut up one of my old plywood shelves from the garage - makes a good shower bench! Going pretty smooth so far.

IF your panel has the room for it.
Sorry, just jealous. My place, I didn't feel like renovating the breaker panel for one heated floor. Payout not there.
