Interesting, so the turbo car has to have a MAP instead of a MAF to eliminate the elevation variance entirely, assuming the turbo has enough headroom to compensate?

I actually do recall your line about the E46. Are you the definitive guide to how fast cars are across the board?Originally posted by benyl

haha, I am guessing Hallowed point never read the thread where I said the E46 M3 is slower than dog shit on a hot day.
So let's take his dyno numbers. 256whp. We don't need to even talk about driveline loss as it is built into the number.
I am going to assume here that the number isn't raw and corrected for sea level power.
Official elevation is 3,428 ft.
That would put his car at 212 hp if we take the 5% rule.
The problem is that the density altitude is killer here in Calgary. today is fine. It's cold. It's 2400 ft right now. Good luck with traction.
On a 25 degree day, it can be as high as 7000 ft. That drops power to 170whp.
A turbo car with a MAF, like the STI doesn't compensate as well as a turbo car that has a MAP, like a BMW N54/N55.
The STI will not increase boost pressure as altitude goes up. It suffers like a NA or supercharged engine. It's still better than NA.
The N54/N55 will increase boost pressure to make up for altitude. The N54 (when I had one) would increase boost from the normal 8psi at sea level to 12 psi here in Calgary, especially on a hot day. The N54 made 300hp at sea leve and 300 hp here in calgary, uncorrected.
NA cars like the accord suffer huge on 30 degree days.

You obviously know a great deal about dynos and correction factor. I just know who I've beaten. I'm certainly not the stig, but that STI was truly sad. As in, laughable. That is an interesting read though. I did not know about MAP vs MAF correction. Thanks for that
Anyone with a stock STI who wants to do a run @ Castrol, send me a PM.
I've owned factory turbo and NA V8 cars. I know what to expect. I actually did not count on the accord being so quick for a family sedan based ride.

Wow. What the hell happened to this thread?
Beyond getting back to it's bench racing roots? Too many appliance and angry white men threads I guess.Originally posted by heavyD

It's my lucky day. I have a stock STI. Let's do this.

Or just head to Mexico where we can do it for free.
2015. I am not cheap, I am not doing anything for free. I want results on paper, stamped, and officially approved. When is the next Castrol drag race?Originally posted by Hallowed_point

I'm in Calgary , but I think I can make it work. If not the Friday, the 29th would be much easier instead of driving up after work .Originally posted by Konj

Honestly, I live beside 22X..that makes a lot more sense.... unless you're also in E town. We can get an impartial 3rd party to witness/record

No, I want it on paper and I want it done legally so that results can be posted on beyond. I don't want a recording of us drag racing illegally.Originally posted by Hallowed_point
