Default Test-drive rollover smashes $45K BMW

    By NADIA MOHARIB, CALGARY SUN

Good thing the break-it-you-buy-it policy didn't apply to a man who had the misfortune of rolling and likely writing off a pricey car during a test drive.

Neill Taniguchi, new vehicle sales manager with Calgary BMW, said a customer was northbound on Deerfoot Tr. Monday afternoon in a $45,000 BMW 323 four-door sedan when he lost control while heading onto a flyover.

"My understanding is he just lost control in the gravel and overcorrected, hit a light standard and rolled," Taniguchi said, adding the driver had a salesman and another passenger in the car with him.

The air bags deployed and all three walked away -- albeit stiff and sore from the vehicle's somersault -- without serious injuries.

The damage will be covered by the dealership's insurance.

Interesting, so there's no liability to the driver at all??

How can there be a deductable if you don't sign anything before a testdrive?

Or do you mean the dealership loses $5000?

I've testdriven quite a few cars in Calgary now, loads of fun - the salesmen are usually younger guys who lets me gun it a bit Went up to 210 in a Cooper S, 190 in a new Tacoma and got a WRX STi to chirp (hard) all four tires

Couldn't have happened to a nicer dealership. I guess Karma does work.

They must of really been in a good mood or really impressed by you becuase they wanted a $1000 deposit before they would let me test drive the STi.

They said some bullshit about that, but I lied and said I lived in the states and already had an Evo I was going to bring up, and that I wasn't going to give them any money unless this car impressed me.

    I'm such a prick

Back in 2001, Centaur wanted me to sign a conditional sales agreement before I could drive the WRX. They said if I didn't like the car after the test drive, then they'd just rip up the agreement. WTF is the point of that?

The other Subaru dealer in the NE had no such policy and let me test drive it without any hassle.
