The BMW Z5 will probably be my next car...!!!
BMW is aiming for these specs for the Z5:

    2.0 or 2.2litre inline 4 engine producing 220-240 HP.
Weight: 2200 lbs (Thats lighter than a Civic DX - 2403 lbs, Civic EX 2555 lbs)
An M-Model variant will come out later with over 300HP..!!!

    For comparison:
The Honda S2000 has a 2.0 litre engine producing 240HP and 153lb/ft torque but weights a wopping 2810 lbs.

if the STI ever gets here which i don't think i'm willing to bet it will be a $70k+ car. i would imagine subaru would have to get really creative with emission control on the sti to get it pass.

They use different fuel and timing curves to accomodate 92 octane fuel. I believe they are using the same turbo, just less boost.

The STi is pretty radicially different from the standard WRX. The STi sports a semi-closed deck block, sodium filled valves, revised heads and cams, a bigger/more efficient intercooler, stronger rods and crank, lower ratio pistons, a bigger turbo with a different impeller design and more boost, more aggressive fuel and timing curves, a front LSD, a 6 speed manual transmission, bigger sway bars, stiffer springs and shocks, a different ground effects package and spoiler, gold colored wheels and a different interior. It might as well be a different car.
The standard US model WRX has a smaller turbo then in japan

and the STi is a 2.2L up from a 2L

No, the STi is a turbo 2L. The only impreza powered from the factory by a turbo 2.2L is the 22B STi, of which only 500 were produced in the 1998 model year.

I believe both the WRX and WRX STi have 2.0L engines.

The engine for the Evo 7 is also a 2.0L Turbocharged inline 4.

The reason for this is that the largest displacement for the WRC rally cars is a 2.0L Turbocharged Inline 4.
