Please forward this to anyone you know that lives in Calgary , especially those who live in the NE.NW- - Harvest Hills, Country Hills, Coventry Hills, Panaroma Hills, Hidden Valley, and all the other new small areas surrounding.
Not only myself but quite a few of my friends and family who live in this area have had people come to their doors as well.
I currently live in Coventry (just off of Country Hills Blvd ). I have a security system and that is very noticeable when you arrive at my house due to the stickers and lawn signs. I do however know that many people have stickers and lawn signs who do not have active security systems or no security system.
Last night, I had a gentleman come to my door. He claimed to be from Honeywell Security System. He had a badge as well as an ID tag that stated Honeywell. He said that he was in the area selling security systems. He said that he noticed I had signs stating that I already had a security system, but asked me if the systems were activated. He attempted to get into my house to ask me a bunch of questions about the activation. I took note he was checking out his surroundings very closely, and that is where I knew something was fishy.
I have 3 large dogs that kept barking and growling at him.
He took note of the dogs and thanked me for my time and then left. It did not occur to me until later, but his questions seemed very suspicious. I thought if he was staking out the house, these would be the perfect questions to ask.
This morning, I called Honeywell in Calgary . I wanted to find out if they had salesmen in the area. They explained to me that they do not sell home security systems anymore, that they are just a manufacturer. I asked to
speak to a manager and he confirmed that there is no way they would ever have a sales person going door to door.
I called the Calgary Police this morning and they said they have gotten quite a few calls regarding this issue. If you do have any of these gentleman come to your door, please tell them you DO have a security system in place (even if you do not).
