These bankruptcy filings are in the USA only, Canada chain is good to go still.
    Will fuck off, again.

Kind of, they have shut down quite a few locations in Calgary.

Its too bad, its always good to go down to the movie rental place and browse around at physical titles with a few buddies/gf on what to watch.

The bankruptcy filing is not a "kind of" thing - it only applies to the USA operation.

Will agree that there are a number of Canadian locations shutting down or down sizing, no different the Rogers Video location - 'tis the nature of that industry, people just aren't renting as much as they used to anymore what with digital on-demand stuff and down-loadable (legal or not) stuff. Too bad though as many old classics are pretty much impossible to find now for rent even at Casablanca's.

    In evit able.

About time they filed. I wonder if there will be any pennies left to scrape up after its done or if its a complete write off.

I'm watching the last movie I will probably ever rent right now, Mulholland Drive.

    I thought that's HMV?

US rental market downfall is much faster than Canada due to Redbox. BB got out innovated. Too late to mailing, too late to streaming, too late to vending machine rentals.

It boggles my mind how blockbuster didn't react to the market change and offer a netflix like service. Unbelievable.

They did. It was called Blockbuster Total Access. It never really took off.

I remember when Blockbuster and Rogers drove all the small rental places out of business. Now it's their turn to be behind the technology curve (especially Blockbuster, Rogers has cell phones to keep their video stores afloat).

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

i'm waiting for the movie movie rental lobby to approach the government and have them legislate that people must rent DVDs or that they are entitled to 50% of the online rental profit.

good riddance. Block Busters prices were ridiculous and the late fees were even more ridiculous.

Yeah... at the point these days - people are buying DVDs to watch at their homes and keep indefinitely at home. No need to drive back to return the rentals! And then there are these online movies you can click on computer to download to watch.

I still go to blockbusters to rent a movie sometimes but lately had slowed down to one movie rental every 2 weeks or so. Their late fees are stupid anyway!

I wouldn't cry if the day come when ALL BB and Rogers went down for good. I think it will be in few or 5 years to happen - if not any longer!

I figure you'll see a resurgence of Korean corner stores with a small movie selection.
