Hey guys,
I'm doing a brake job and I need the right tool to remove a 17mm bolt holding the brake caliper bracket in place. Can't get enough torque using a regular ratchet.
Do I need an air tool to get it off? Here's a similar pic.

Use a snipe
snipe
breaker bar
turn the steering wheel so the bolts are easier to access and apply more torque to.
if you have access to a big pry bar, use the bar's leverage against the ratchet and a control arm for more torque
Shouldn't be all that difficult. Put some penetrating oil on it and let it sit for a bit. If you don't have a breaker bar, you can use a ratchet extension with a socket at the end which fits the end of your ratchet handle. (Makeshift breaker bar for more leverage)

A trick that I used to use to get stuck bolts out (before I bought an impact wrench) is to position the socket horizontally then put a jack under the end of the socket and jack it up. Used this method to do my brakes and to get a wheel hub off.
Manual Impact wrench, Put on your ratchet and nudge it with a rubber mallot.

Instead of a ratchet, I smash with a steel hammer on the open end of a combo wrench (use safety glasses).Originally posted by Ichigo

Ratchets can break a cam.
Also, try some PB penetrant. This stuff is amazing, I loosened the lower control arms on my 8 year old Civic with no problems after letting it soak over night.
^ Is that stuff better than Liquid Wrench?
Ya, I switched.Originally posted by G-ZUS

WD40 < LW < PB
A 24" breaker bar did the trick. Thanks guys!
