    Default Theoretical Grow Op situation

What would happen in this case?

Lets say you own half of a duplex, you decide to rent it out, and you later find out that it was being used as a grow op and has the usual mold damage/hacked up utilities, etc.

Would they condemn your half only or both?

What if mold got into you neighbors side of the duplex as well? Would the neighbor have a legal right to sue you?

Disclaimer: I do not own a duplex, or a grow-op, or know of anyone who has. I'm just curious.

    Yes they would condemn both
Yes your neighbour would sue you

If your thinking about growing dope, a duplex wouldnt be the smartest choice

But if you owned both sides, then the power bill for the whole house wouldn't be red flagged....

In keeping with the Beyond way, I'll keep the answer short.

    Both
then both sides would be infected with mould
    Yes

Hope the answers didn't go out too far on a tangent for anyone.

    Cheers

PS; not a very interesting post so far.

IF its a properly built duplex then the party walls should be at minimum fire rated and at best double drywall in which case the chance of fungal contamination migration is slim.
That is on the assumption that the grow op was set up by a 'professional' and not some amateur hack who screws up the venting and water drains and causes issues that shouldn't happen.
Again IF either side is contaminated enough to warrant condemnation and demolition then both sides would go.
Best thing to do is live on an acreage about 50 minutes from the city limits and have solar power and a windmill on my oops I mean your land that could easily supply enough power to grow such things in an outbuilding that can't be seen from the road or easily detected from the air and also houses a healthy crop of 'organic' tomatoes.
    Hypothetically of course.
As for the legal aspects I'm assuming that as the Government places all responsibility for the grow op on the home owner that the legal system would too so you'd be sued up the wazoo with no insurance to help.
