Refinishing a tub? Don't bother. I've looked into it and DIY measures come off looking like crap and professinal jobs are $$$
Refinishing is for rental units where all you want is to spruce up a shitty looking tub. Refinishing starts at around $500 and in the end it just looks like.....an old tub that's been refinished. And it doesn't last.
You've already got most of the job ripped apart. To not spend another $500 on a brand new tub when you're spending thousands on Granite tops, new tile, new flooring will be all for nothing. Any perspective owner will take one look at an old tub and think "Okay...#1 on the project list is completely gut this bathroom and put in a new one".
I see this mistake all the time. You either splash a paint job and tidy the place up..or you invest money wisely and do a proper reno, which will give you at least 40% on your investment.
Day 2

Time to remove that ugly backsplash in the kitchen. I watched the countertop guys do the job at my parents house so with my pry bar, I just followed their methodology. It was relatively easy.

Meanwhile, my dad installed new lock and handle while I did the backsplash. Got some good stuff thanks to my buddy at Spalding Hardware (http://www.spaldinghardware.com/). Family-owned business so love supporting the local economy.

With the one side done, we assessed the hood fan removal and got it done easy peasy

We discovered this was hiding behind the fan:

It's not live because we shut it off at the breaker and tile removal continued.

Got a 'gift' from my aunt. Marble table!
Thanks for the opinions on the shower vs. tub debacle and opinions on refinishing. Looks like I'll definitely have to replace the tub but I want to finish the kitchen first and see what's leftover in the budget to assess the damage of a new tub. FML.
Lesson of the Day:
Always wear safety goggles. Saved my eyes from flying tiles today.
That is a pimp table!! How heavy was it?!
Ultracrepidarian
Sweet table. What's your plan for the hood fan?
That location and unit isnt going to attract seniors or families.... i'd say do a pimp shower, big enough for two, massage jets, steam, and rain head

Hood fan will be replaced with a more powerful recirculating fan (>300CFM)

I wouldn't call it a gamble. Thats a LOT of people's dream bathroom... only way to go for a one bedroom in the beltline imo
Keeping it in the cabinets or attaching a nice stainless wall mount unit?Originally posted by flipstah

I ordered one off http://www.kitchenhoods.ca/range-hoods/index.php and it worked really well.
I'm going to keep the cabinet but use a recirc kit, add louvered doors, and the fan will be stainless steel.Originally posted by davidI

I have a set timeline (lol). I
Found ours awhile back on center street north, somewhere around that Lucky supermarket, but they even sell them at regular places like Home Depot. Best thing about it is the little oil catch trays.Originally posted by flipstah

I'd love to but InRich already assessed the wall and he advised that it would be more headaches in the long-run.Originally posted by ercchry

EDIT: Just received approval for the condo board on my plans but denied the wall removal because the ductwork cannot be touched.
SO... No.
