I still shift back derailleur for efficiency. (edit - shifting will prevent pre-mature failure of the clutch https://bafangusadirect.com/products...g-bbs02-clutch)

For the front derailleur, you would lock the set screws to prevent shifting since there is only 1 chainring on the motor.

Here's a stupid question. With a kit like that, do you need gears? If you had a 1 gear cruiser, that still cool?
Going up hills will still hurt.

So if I have no derailers, then that's a win. Superb.

I assume you would get less range and more load from the motor depends on assist level. Still learning on this mid drive addition. Seems like a quick way to turn my old commuter into a e-bike.

Are there any e-bikes that are cheap enough that you'd feel comfortable leaving them locked to one of the sidewalk bike racks downtown Calgary? Thinking of a basic commuting option. Ideally something that has an easily removable battery pack that I could carry into my office with me every day to recharge.
no bike is safe in that scenario, whether its worth $100 or $10,000.

I'd carry it into the office with me.

I don't trust my bike locked anywhere. It comes with me wherever I go.

I ordered off this seller on Amazon.com for my parents. They drop ship from Ontario and it arrived fairly quickly (~2 weeks) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
With the magnetic brake sensors you don't need to swap brake levers.
It's simply replacing the crank/bottom bracket with the motor and mounting the battery.

I could lend you the crank puller and bottom bracket tool. You only need a socket wrench and allen keys after that.
Hmmm I'm going to have to look into this kit. I have a bike but with 2 kids riding in the thule now hills really really suck. I didn't want to replace the whole bike but I don't physical-activity enough to constantly be biking up and down hills. This might help!

I assume most guys who ride e-bikes sit right on the post so, makes sense.

Not sure if anyone on Beyond can take advantage of it, BC is giving away up to $1400 on e-bikes (based on income)

    https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2023MOTI0071-000804

Beginning June 1, 2023, rebates on the purchase of an approved e-bike will be available to B.C. residents older than 19 and will be based on a person’s income. Rebates will range from $350 to a maximum of $1,400.

All shit bikes under $2K will immediately be over $2K to qualify.

But a low income student getting an e-bike for $600 is still a great deal.
