I just moved out on my own, turning out to be a bit more expensive then I thought.
What are some good money saving tips?
Any tips or tricks?

You gotta put money away soon as you get paid, then pay your bills and buy the necessities. Simple, but it works.
You just have to learn how to budget, for the first while you probably can't go to pubs or bars to drink, just stay home.
Not really, it's hard to save when you move out for the first time. You don't realize how much money you are acutally going to need. It's all those little things that add up.
But when you go to work make sure the lights are off, the heat is down or off.
Always check for leaks from your faucets, toilets, etc. Even if it's small you wouldn't believe how much a few drips every minute will end up costing you.
And i guess buy in bulk.
Do laundry at your parents. LOL
Other than that...get a room mate
Thats all i can really suggest.
Good luck
don't leave your computer on all the time.....and don't let your roommates leave theirs on all the time either, watch your phone usage, get rid of a cell phone or house phone if it's costing you too much (you only need one or the other), and don't eat out every single frikken day or go snowboarding twice a week, that's our problem right now. Buy no name or store brand food (sometimes it tastes better anyways). Watch water usage times, it's more expensive during peak hours and so on. If you're paying a laundromat to do your laundry, try and avoid that, that costs huge. Buy groceries every couple of days instead of once a week and so on, you'd be surprised how much stuff goes bad before you have a chance to eat it! Get rid of a few things you don't need and you should be alright. Get used to KD and noodles too, that's a good way to save!
Success is the ultimate revenge.
Its all about having a simple budget. Its not about "money saving tips" its about spending less.
Take the amount you make per month.... the subtract the following things
- Rent
- Utilities (Gas, Water, Power...)
- Phone
- Cell Phone
- Internet
- Cable TV
- Car Insurance
- Tenant Insurance
- Gas/Oil Changes
- Car Payments
- Groceries
- Eating Out
- Entertainment
- Clothing
...and so on
Budget, budget, budget.
I write my expenses down to a tee and follow them. I put all the money I need to save away and give myself some cash to spend. I find you learn after doing it for a while.
stay away from forum marketplaces.....
Prioritize.
Then invest in yourself
use coupons! and buy when u get those offers like buy 1 get 1 free
I put all my spare change in a jar at the end of a day. Equates to well over 100 a month.

Stay away from credit cards. If you don't have cash, don't buy it. Also watch how much you eat out, it can make a big dent in a budget, it is way cheaper to buy groceries and eat at home.
Same, the girlfriend then takes it and puts it towards spending money when we go on vacations. We took a 4 day holiday to Jasper, and all our food/entertainment was paid for by the change jar.Originally posted by Ben

Like others have said, I also find the easiest way to not spend money is to just stay home alot more often. Everytime you go out its gonna end up costing you money.

but i only got around 50 for my first month
i didn't think i even had that much though
learn how to cook. i probably save $500 per month by not eating out all the time.
I remembe ri made a thread like this about 2 years ago, and all i got were flames for it...Hmmm
Best way i find is self control. Like everybody else has said, pay just for your bills, and then the basics (Hygene, groceries, etc.) and save the rest. Going out should become a limited thing.
Also, Gpomp had a good suggestion, learn to cook and eat at home. You can spend like, 50 dollars on groceries and eat for a week, or spend 50 going out for Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner for 1 day.
Good luck

I keep 2 separate bank accounts. The bank account I'm trying to save money I threw away the bank card. That way the only way I can take money out is if I go to the teller and physically take out money, and usually I'm too lazy to do that haha. But that's basically how I budget. An account for saving money, one for necessities, and one for partying and I put money in each account according to how much I allow myself to spend for each.
DON'T DATE WOMEN! Dates cost money and lots of it UNLESS you are really really creative and she's not a superficial beotch!
man u use cash for everything...i dont remember the last time i had cash in my wallet...so makes it hard to save my change.Originally posted by Ben

You most likely to have adjust your lifestyle by
1. Making more money (second job)
2. Spend less (no more nice clothes, going out to eat, cars, expensive electronics etc.)
For me, I choose option #1.
